Sony has announced that they have acquired ownership of the Evolution Championship Series, the biggest annual fighting game tournament in North America and highly popular internationally. Sony Interactive Entertainment has joined forces with RTS, an esports focused joint venture, to co-own all assets of the brand. The founders of Evo will stay at the company as advisors to Sony.

Additionally, Evo took the time to state that this year’s event will take place from August 6th to 8th, followed by a short break before concluding from August 13th to 15th. Featured games will include Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter 5. While PlayStation will lead the event, the tournament will still be open to games on all systems. In the past, Evo has been a major hub for the Smash Brothers tournament community. Nintendo has commented that they will need more time to decide if they will partake in this new Sony owned Evo.
