September starts next week. That means summer is over, kids are going back to school, and new games are being offered for free for Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscribers. Surprisingly, Sony released their list first, usually, Microsoft reveals their selection first, and they're excellent games. With Darksiders III and Batman Arkham Knight being offered.
Darksiders III is the latest game in the franchise. Developed by Gunfire Games, that was recently purchased by THQ Nordic, this adventure stars Fury before the events of the first game. War has been imprisoned and awaiting trial while Fury is tasked with killing the Seven Deadly Sins by the Charred Council. The game received mixed reception due to its new gameplay style, taking references from Dark Souls and deviating largely from the previous games. The next game, Darksiders: Genesis, is another prequel that stars the Horseman Strife.
Batman: Arkham Knight is the final game in the core Rocksteady trilogy. With Batman attempting to stop Scarecrow and a new villain called the Arkham Knight. The game received mixed reception due to the overuse of the Batmobile, PC technical issues that forced WB to recall the game, and a cliffhanger ending. Recently, a rumor surfaced that showed a new game was in development that starred Batman's son, Damian, who would take on the role of Batman and feature the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor but was canceled. Since then, Rocksteady has been working on a secret project that was rumored to be a Superman game, due to the many Superman-related easter eggs in Batman: Arkham Knight. But Rocksteady debunked these claims.
