Spectrum: An Elegy for Piano Kickstarter Arrives in the Concert Hall of Kickstarter
Spectrum: An Elegy for Piano explores the concept of Synesthesia in a Puzzle Adventure Game.
Energize Laboratories and Rienzi Gokea started their Kickstarter Campaign to raise $30,000 for Spectrum: An Elegy for Piano ,their interesting take on the puzzle game genre based around the concept of Synesthesia. According to the dictionary, synesthesia is:
“A sensation produced in one modality when a stimulus is applied to another modality, as when the hearing of a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color. “

This concept is applied in the game by a puzzle action game heavily involving music in order to help you solve the puzzles. Our young protagonist Timothy hears music as colors, which helps him solve the various puzzles the game is said to present. Both of Timothy’s parents were talented musicians; his mother a pianist and his father a composer, who composed in a concert hall they owned until his wife died and the place fell in disarray. The color in the boy's life drained away until one day he sees a bird singing a tune, which leads Timothy to his parents’ old playbill. Timothy is so inspired by this that he decides to fill the land with beautiful music once again.
The Kickstarter talks about a semi-open world which allows the players to explore various parts of the world, entering and leaving the area whenever they want, allowing them to explore sections of the game in any order. The game itself is divided into three movements like a sonata, each having its own musical styles and colors. It gradually increases in difficulty as time goes on, testing the players ear for music as well as their ability to solve the puzzles that are presented to them with sound and color. Each object or individual will have their own personal musical sound.
All of the Early Adopter tier is gone, but for $ 15 you can get the game when it comes out, all the backgrounds and your name in the credits. The highest tier is for $7,500 which is described as:
“Founder Level: Team Member for Life + Trip to NYC -- Same reward as producer level + Producer credits and collaboration on all future games or products released by Rienzi Gokea and Energize Studios + Paid trip to New York City for up to three days to hang out with Rienzi and the rest of the team members. Attend a special live concert performed by the musicians on the team of pieces from the game's soundtrack! (Can opt to come for launch party as well)”
Spectrum: An Elegy for Piano will be available on PC, Mac and Linux, and is estimated to release in December 2015 according to its Kickstarter. We will update you as the story develops.
