The stars are lining up for Mario fans once more. Nintendo has officially announced that Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are now available on the Switch. They also promised an enhancement patch for the Switch 2. The collection will be released on October 2, and already, pictures of retail boxes, cartridges, and cover art have started to appear online, making gamers very excited.

Sources indicate that preliminary views of the packaging reveal something unexpected: new images of Mario on the inside cover art. Some fans have noticed that these pictures don’t match any of the ones that have been released before, which could mean that Nintendo created new assets for this special release.

The design of the cartridge is also unique, featuring a diagonal split that prominently displays both titles. This gives the collection a strong, commemorative feel. These small artistic details suggest that Nintendo wants to make this release more than just a reissue; they want it to be a significant event in Mario’s history.

The design of the Switch 2 itself gives the packaging an interesting touch. Reports indicate that the Switch 2 cases feature a red, semi-transparent shell that subtly alters the colour of any artwork inside. This makes the inside cover art less eye-catching than the current Switch. Still, Nintendo’s decision to include bright, anniversary-themed designs shows that they want to give fans something memorable, regardless of the console generation on which they are playing.

These things may seem small, but they make a big difference for collectors.

The real question is not the presentation, but the performance. Most of the promotional videos so far have showcased gameplay on the current Switch, which has led fans to wonder what improvements the Switch 2 will bring.

Will Mario’s space adventures look sharper, have smoother frame rates, or even have more modern lighting effects to bring them into the new generation? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but people are very excited, especially since these games are so well-known in the platforming genre.

For a lot of fans, Mario Galaxy 2 is the best game in the collection. Galaxy 1 was already re-released in the 3D All-Stars collection, but Galaxy 2 never made it to new hardware—until now. As one of the best 3D platformers ever made, it has garnered significant interest from both longtime fans and new players who missed it the first time. Galaxy 2 is likely to be the best game in this bundle because of its creative level design, unique mechanics, and smooth gameplay.

The fact that it will be available in stores also suggests that some players may already have copies before the game’s release, which means that leaks and early impressions could emerge sooner than expected. This makes people even more curious about how the game will run on the Switch 2 after the patches are installed. For now, fans can only guess, but history shows that Nintendo isn’t afraid to update old games to work with new hardware.

The return of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is both timely and exciting, with nostalgia in one hand and curiosity in the other.

These aren't just simple re-releases; they're part of Nintendo's ongoing effort to give players of all ages new experiences that still have the magic of the originals. Now that Galaxy 2 is finally back after a long wait, Nintendo should remind everyone why Mario is still the best 3D platformer.

As the release date of October 2 gets closer, one question stands out above all others: when the Switch 2 improvements come out, will Mario’s galaxy-hopping adventures be better than ever
