Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Price Leak Falls Apart as New Retailer Listing Raises Questions

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has once again become the center of speculation after a new retailer listing appeared to reveal a possible price for the highly anticipated game. The latest development comes after previous reports connected GameStop's online search information with a potential $60 price and an August 4 date. 

According to an insider, GameStop did not leak either the pre-order date or the price of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Instead, Google was apparently pulling release date and pricing information associated with Beast of Reincarnation, an upcoming Game Freak title scheduled to launch on August 4 with a standard edition priced at $59.99. 

Google's search data appears to have incorrectly associated the information with the Zelda remake. This means that the earlier $60 price and August 4 date should not be considered reliable information about Nintendo's game.

The episode also raised questions about how search engines and AI-powered search tools can be used to surface incorrect information. 

If Google's systems were pulling data from a retailer's pages and connecting it to the wrong game, that information could then spread quickly through search results and AI-generated answers. The original GameStop listing still created confusion because it appeared to show a $60 price alongside an August 4 date for Ocarina of Time. 

While the GameStop information appears to have been explained, another retailer listing has now created a fresh wave of speculation. Play It Games, Movies, and Music, a retailer with four locations in Ohio, has listed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for pre-order at $69.99. 

The listing has led some people to think the game could cost $69.99 when Nintendo officially opens pre-orders. However, looking more closely at the retailer's other listings raises serious doubts about whether the price is accurate.

It appears the retailer’s website is more of a listing service for games that can be pre-ordered, rather than a traditional e-commerce store where you can buy right away. Among its listings is Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is also listed at $69.99. 

That price immediately raises concerns because Halo: Campaign Evolved is expected to be a $50 physical release. Other retailers are listing the game at its actual $50 price, making the $69.99 listing from Play It appear to be inaccurate.

That mistake is significant because it suggests the $69.99 price attached to Ocarina of Time may also be a placeholder. 

If the same retailer is listing a $50 game at $69.99, there is little reason to treat its $69.99 Zelda listing as confirmation of Nintendo's final pricing. It’s possible that the retailer is just listing a temporary price for upcoming games until the official pricing info is out. So the latest listing isn’t gospel for the cost of the remake.

As of yet, Nintendo has not confirmed the price for The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time remake. The game is expected to launch in 2026, but more than halfway through July, there is still no confirmed release window or official price. That lack of information has left fans relying on retailer listings and other fragments of information to estimate what Nintendo has planned for the remake. 

The lack of clarity is particularly evident in light of Nintendo’s use of different price points on its Switch 2 games. Some titles are being priced around the $60 mark, while others have hit $80, leading to speculation as to where Ocarina of Time may be. 

A $60 price could indicate a more modest-scale remake still quite close to the original experience, while a $70 or $80 price could mean a more ambitious project. But without official word it is impossible to know what tier of pricing Nintendo has gone with.

The lack of news about the remake has made the wait more frustrating for fans. Nintendo revealed the game during a Nintendo Direct but has provided very little information since then. The company has not yet confirmed a price, a specific release date, or a detailed look at how the remake will expand on the original game. 

Ocarina of Time is widely expected to be one of Nintendo's biggest releases of 2026, which makes the limited amount of information even more noticeable. 

Unless Nintendo announces another major title during a potential September Nintendo Direct that shakes up its release plans, the remake is likely to remain one of the company’s main games for the year. The game's importance has also increased expectations for a more substantial reveal. So far, fans have had little more than the initial teaser to work with.

The latest retailer information also makes the rumored August 4 date look increasingly questionable. There has been speculation that Nintendo could open pre-orders on August 4 or even release the game without a major marketing campaign beforehand. But there is no sign of a mystery launch on that date. 

For now, the only clear conclusion is that the price of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time remake remains unconfirmed. The earlier $60 GameStop information appears to have resulted from Google incorrectly associating the game with Beast of Reincarnation, while the newer $69.99 listing from Play It is questionable because the retailer is also incorrectly pricing Halo: Campaign Evolved. 

Nintendo has yet to announce an official price or release window for the remake. Until that information comes directly from Nintendo, both the $60 and $69.99 figures should be treated as speculation rather than confirmed details.
