Zynga has officially announced that after 11 years FarmVille will finally come to an end on December 31. FarmVille has always been dependent on Adobe Flash to function, and with Adobe’s decision to end the Flash Player, Zynga has decide to conclude their game as well. Prior to the actual shut down, in-app purchases will be stopped on November 17. No refunds will be offered after this point and all unspent credits will be lost.

Zynga has further stated that various in-game events will be held leading up to the game’s closure. They are also encouraging players to download FarmVille 3 on mobile devices, although it is unclear if anything will migrate from the original Facebook game. This will likely disappoint many long time players, as more than 30 million users played the game at its peak. Still, it is probably a better financial move for Zynga to focus on a new product rather than continue to milk old technology.
