We once did a special on the Neo Geo Station hitting Playstation Network to once more grant us the days of arcade dominator Neo Geo or Shin Nihon Kikaku (SNK). Now, players will be able to get even closer to a similar experience with manufacturer Blaze announcing the Neo Geo X; a portable preloaded with 20 games. This limited edition handheld will launch in Q2 2012 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Neo Geo AES console, which had a ridiculous price at the time.

Furthering the line of nostalgia, the price for this new unit is equally set at a ridiculous £500, according to MCV. That equals to $790 USD or €600 in Euro moneys. That money will buy you both a Playstation Vita and a Nintendo 3DS, with change to spare on games. However, that wouldn’t grant you the possibility to play one of these listed games:

·         Art of Fighting

·         Baseball Stars

·         Cyber Up

·         Fatal Fury

·         Fatal Fury Special

·         Football Frenzy

·         King of the Monsters

·         Last resort

·         League Bowling

·         Magician Lord

·         Metal Slug

·         Mutation Nation

·         Nam 1975

·         Samurai Shodown

·         Sengoku

·         Super Sidekicks

·         The King of Fighters ’94

·         The Ultimate 11

·         Top Players Golf

·         World Heroes

The 9 italic names are games also available on Sony’s online network. These games are also playable on PSP, if portability is an issue. Aside from the exclusive games such as the superb King of the Monsters, the Neo Geo X will also come with some added features. The handheld will have stereo speakers, a headphone socket, A/V output and even an SD card expansion.

Blaze told MCV that they were open to a price drop. Let’s hope that price is several hundreds of whatever currency you’re thinking of right now. Isn’t nostalgia grand?

  • You know, all those great grand games. but imo, they arent worth me digging that deep a hole in my pocket. the hardware being used isnt even near that cost. *sighs* capitalism for the win! Those guys are idiots. $150 for that could sell alot better and alot more units. After all, they have to keep in mind that the generation that used to play those games and would love to have them again are the ones that are the current work force of the world and thus have money to spare on stuff like this. not the 5 year olds that werent even thought about being born.
