It's no secret that THQ is facing financial trouble. The publisher saw $56 million in losses in the third quarter of its last fiscal year, has seen layoffs affecting the publisher itself, Relic Entertainment, and Vigil Games, as well pay-cuts for higher-ups all happen within the last year.

With that in mind, you may be wondering what this means for coming THQ published games. In the case of Darksiders 2, a two-month delay. One that is, as the folks at Vigil stated on the Darksiders Website, completely unrelated.

The delay, which pushes the game back from its previously announced June 26th release to sometime in August, comes as a realization that more time was needed to fix some bugs and refine the overall game. The coming WiiU version nor the layoffs that hit the company are to blame, and that nothing will be cut as result of the smaller team.

Vigil assured its fans that the delay will only ensure the game won't be bogged down with bugs. A fine trade-off, to be sure, but one can't help but wonder if the restructuring hasn't at least played some small part in the decision.

Whatever the case, Darksiders 2 is now on track for its August debut. The game is set for release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, the WiiU version coming whenever the console launches.

  • Restructuring could play its part but I doubt it did. At least not when the release date is so close. I know it's easy to pointing fingers at their internal situation, but I'd simply believe that the reason behind this delay is purely bug fixing. But any further delay will unquestionably verify company’s unstable internal condition.

  • @Amaya - I don't doubt that bug-fixing is the main reason for the delay. It's more just a lingering thought of whether the game would have still been pushed back had the developer not suffered layoffs. I'd like to think that things wouldn't have changed either way, but... hey, you never know.

  • @Amaya @c_rake 20 bucks says that because of the financial issues, they will take those 2 months to limit content in the game in order to make some DLC out of it. Im sorry, its just too convinient. a smaller team will not make them realize that the game has bugs all of the sudden. Its just not practical. financial problems will also not make them realize what those bugs are out of the blue. on the contrary, financial problems will give off the opposite effect. It would force them to rush things in order to get the product out there in order get some of the money lost back.
