Call of Duty: Black Ops

They have done it again! The new version of the popular franchise is mandatory

The Call of Duty series has evolved considerably over time. New possibilities for fun, innovative weapons, diverse multiplayer modes and even zombies have proven the success of the series in the world of video games. Anyway, it's Call of Duty. Early on, the player will realize that the franchise really worked carefully in this production. The main menu is a nightmare scenario, taking into consideration that the gamer has the ability to move the camera while viewing, able to select Campaign, Zombies and multiplayer options. Analyzing what makes the Call of Duty series so different from the others, without a doubt the most important factor is the immersion that the team can deliver, the feeling of actually being in a war. Several elements combine to create unique sensations that convince who is playing, and it certainly is the key to success.

Black Ops uses simple elements such as interactive scenes to create the illusion that we are responsible for participating in the action. Details like your character touching the shoulder of a partner or encouraging him to break into a room full of enemies can be an example. Or, to rescue an allied soldier shot in the midst of a frantic clash in Vietnam may be another even more compelling. We also have spectacular cut scenes, like the first mission in which the characters use motorcycles clearly inspired by Che Guevara. These cutscenes allow greater control by the player, which minimizes the frustration of some games earlier in those moments seemed too easy and not very interactive. The story of Call of Duty: Black Ops is not just a single line connection, but it changes in terms of environment and characters as the previous games. In short, we are talking about a game that gives us a wide variety of gameplay.

Throughout the development process of the game, Treyarch has always said to be trying to develop a different campaign from previous games in the series . This time, the main objective was that the players were able to easily create stronger ties with the character through a storyline and characters marked with a charisma that could make them become real heroes of who is on their side.

Call of Duty Black Ops Review

Treyarch takes a formula already with acclaimed credits. This is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: World at War, one character who stands out is the Russian Sergeant Reznov, which will have an important role throughout the plot. Black Ops deals a new conflict, jumping between different environments, such as Cuba, Laos, Vietnam and even Russia. The main character, if it can be called, is Alex Mason, a soldier member of MACV-SOG. The game takes place in the 60's, between 1961 and 1968, although there are some trips to the past, particularly for contextualization.

Black Ops is a real Call of Duty, in the true sense of the word in visual terms, with the realism that we are familiar. Visually it's very good, with fantastic scenery and extreme variety. Not a perfect game visually, even as it has its flaws and some visual errors, but the sum of the parts Call of Duty: Black Ops is a very beautiful game. Regarding the voice acting, there are performances of great actors such as Sam Worthington, Ed Harris and Gary Oldman. We also have the sound effects at the level of what is done in film, in big budget movies.

Not only do you participate in the common shootout, but in many scenes it feels like to be following an action movie. There were a few times when I cried with excitement about what the main character does. Whether driving motorcycles, cars, trucks, boats and helicopters as well as blowing up tanks with missiles, the whole action experience in the game is much bigger and more exciting than any QTE you've ever seen. The interactivity throughout the game is present and it is impressive. Moreover, we must not forget that we are talking about a game of Black Ops. All this espionage characters and special operations is present throughout history. There are special events where you creeps to get cut some throats of unsuspecting enemies, and when you get close without being seen, execution scene is excellent.

Call of Duty also means multiplayer, and for many who are trapped in Modern Warfare 2 would have to have an alternative to height. Now they have and even better. The popular Zombies mode is back and can be played with four player online and two in co-op, split screen. We will be able to play with interesting characters such as John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara, and of course Fidel Castro. Now they are all good friends and have to protect the Pentagon from the Zombies attack.

Call of Duty Black Ops Review

The multiplayer needed to be refreshed and Treyarch did it once again by creating a formula for obtaining points in an interesting way. The Wager Matches were implemented, where you can bet the COD Points earned in online battles in fighting all-against-all. The COD Points are a form of currency exchange, unlike XP, which we gain in online modes, and that could be spent on purchase of various items for our weapons, clothes and accessories. In addition to the purchase of various accessories or even gambling, we can still spend COD Points on Contracts which are basically objectives that we can achieve. An extremely interesting and very dynamic and there is always a lot to spend and where ever being restricted to weapon X or enhancement Y.

Unfortunately not everything is perfect, and the main fawl lies in artificial intelligence, either from our enemies, whether from our partners. Our partners have a tendency to-human jump ahead of our bullets and often die in the crossfire. Sometimes they do not advance and leave us to our peril. On the other hand our enemies are extremely suicidal, since the demand for coverage or protection is very rare. It is true that we often see dozens of enemies on screen and even in some of those times there are some melee fights and tried to save our brothers in arms, but we simply can not interfere in this animation, which is strange. In any event, given the enormous amount of enemies that we must face, the game quickly moves to an explosive action and sometimes without time to breathe.

Call of Duty: Black Ops managed to raise even more the quality of the whole series. Treyarch also successfully collected the good of the two games in the series by mixing Modern Warfare with what they do best. The campaign is very interesting and although the story is once again short, you can complete the campaign in seven hours, it gets the job done. Extremely fun, challenging and with eye-popping moments.

The whole atmosphere of the Cold War and involvement in secret missions is represented in an unique way, and all with the complement of an exemplary gameplay for any First Person Shooter. Treyarch has done thier best game of all time, this is also the best Call of Duty to date.

  • Really? 95/100?

Now I know you haven't tried it on the PC.

No really 95? :O I am shocked to see such a high score.

The most amazing thing I have seen so far in this game is the cutscenes...most of the rest is near unplayable for some PC users who are waiting for a patch.

I wish I would have had one of the consoles to play this... I didn't know it was released on the Wii hmm.

Great written review though...I don't agree with the score. :P

awesome review as usual sir canana.

@Deliduck, i heard about all the issues its having for PC...if it makes you feel better, when i ran the game the first time, i couldnt get past the opening scene after starting a new game. i freaked out, almost cried. i came online to check out if anyone else had that problem...and i saw some people having something similar, but mostly on multipler, and some on campaign but not at the i did something that i have no idea why i did it. i had installed the game on 360 (as any normal cold blooded human would) i uninstalled, and i ran it off the cd completely and so far i have not had any type of problems..and i havent slept much since friday afternoon!

****Edit*** not that running it off the cd is an option for PC users...just thought you might want to know that your feelings are well understood :)

  • @deliduck :

Honestly I don't see any version of this game warranting such a high score. No knock on this reviewer, but Black Ops is just another average FPS game churned out for those dedicated fans who are going to keep eating up every one. It's not a bad game, but the 80 range is a lot more fitting IMO.

  • Love the review and I love the game! Zombies are the best TBH they really stepped it up a notch without leaving the story behind. And the story mode! Man who doesn't like government conspiracies and psychological problems?
