PS3 - Fallout 3 Broken Steel DLC
Reviewed by Nerdboy on Oct 01, 2009
This is a review of the PS3 version of the Fallout 3 DLC and any glitches or bugs that may have been experienced in this version may not have taken place in other versions on other platforms.
Broken Steel was the DLC that when it was first announced was supposed to "fix" the ending. It would allow you to continue playing even after you had finished the game. It would raise the level cap from 20 to 30 as well as adding new main story quests as well as some side quests. Broken Steel comes packed with hours upon hours of more Fallout...but is it worth it's 10 dollar price point?
I've been excited to get my hands on the Fallout 3 DLC since I was stuck in the final area until Broken Steel was released. Broken Steel took about five to six hours to complete and felt like a pretty substantial add on. Broken Steel takes place two weeks after the end of Fallout 3 and has you finishing off the Enclave. And that's where the problems come in.
It's probably been said many many times before but the content that's in Broken Steel should have been in Fallout 3 to begin with. It seems pretty obvious but I'll give Bethesda the benefit of the doubt and assume that they truly thought the way the original game ended was a good idea....yeah.
But that's not my real problem with Broken Steel. It was a great add on and offered up plenty of content along with the new Tesla Cannon which I must say is my new favorite weapon. I fully enjoyed Broken Steel and recommend it to ANYONE looking for more Fallout. The problem is the exact same problem that the PS3 version of Fallout 3 has been having since day one. There are so many glitches in this DLC that you start to think Bethesda stopped caring. Broken Steel has the usual Fallout 3 graphical hiccups and that's not too much of an issue. There are a few specific points in certain quests from Broken Steel where most people have experienced the game freezing on them.
And in the final quest the frame rate becomes extremely unreliable to the point where you feel like you're moving in slow motion. Yet...for some reason I can't stop playing. Fallout 3 has never really impressed me, and with all the glitches and freezing games that I go through it's obvious why it doesnt. Yet for some reason I can't quite explain...I can't stop playing Fallout for some reason or another and whether that's bad or not I dont really know. Something does need to give about these glitches as it seems each DLC has been riddled with them....but until then I'll continue enjoying my broken Fallout.
