2010: Looking forward
Games by Nerdboy on Dec 06, 2009
As we approach the end of a decade it's crazy to think of all of the games we've played and become engrossed in. But now it's time to look into what we'll be experiencing as we enter 2010. The following are games that I'm either hyped for or optimisticly watching and waiting for more gameplay. Some games did not make the list due to the fact that there is a small chance that they may not make it into 2010.
Darksiders
Darksiders takes inspiration from the book of Revelation in the Bible. You play as "War" one of the four horseman of the apocalypse as you find yourself stuck between a battle of Angels and Demons.
I tend to flop back and forth with this game. If done right we could have a game with some pretty epic set pieces while at the same time this could be a pretty bad and repititive game. I have hope though, the game is looking better the more I see of it and to be honest...the setting for the book this game is based on is absolutely asking for a game. Now it's just a matter of how the source material is treated. Here's to hoping this isn't just another hack and slash game.
Dark Void
Dark Void has you teleported into another dimension inhabited by an alien race known as The Watchers. You find other humans who are trapped and are now face with the task of escaping from this alien race.
Granted the story doesn't exactly grab me there are two things in particular that keep me coming back to Dark Void when I think about 2010. The game features what they're calling vertical cover which has you taking cover as you would normally but instead as you climb up walls and such. Idealy this will create a new sense of verticality and if done right will hopefully open up combat in all new ways. It's too early to call this the "next step" in third person cover systems but I'm excited to see how it works. The other big part of this game is the jetpack your character is equiped with. Early impressions are mentioning the jetpack as being insanely fast and insanely fun. I'm just hoping that those reports hold up. If anything Dark Void might be an early shocker for 2010.
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4
Lego Harry Potter covers the first four books of the Harry Potter series in...well Lego!
I've always had a soft spot for these Lego games. I'm not sure if I've reached the point where I'm tired of them but I love Harry Potter and I love Legos. Harry Potter is absolutely good for those funny little moments we get in the Lego games and I'm hoping to have a lot of fun with this game in the downtime between AAA games next year.
Dante's Inferno
Based off the poem Dante's Inferno sends you to Hell as you must fight your way through the nine circles of Hell.
Okay, I'll admit I'm excited for this game. God of War clone or not this IS the Dead Space guys and if there is anyone who is going to recreate Hell then these are the guys I want doing it. Besides...what's so bad about being a God of War clone? Because lets be honest...God of War is a fantastic game, and if done right I think Dante's Inferno might be shocking a whole heck of a lot of people once Febuary rolls around.
Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain puts you into the roll of four different characters as you try to solve the case of the Origami Killer.
As someone who loves playing games that are completely different from the norm my interest is way up for Heavy Rain, and really who isn't? While I fully expect that a lot of reviewers might bash it for having what some may call "QTE's" I'm excited to see just how many endings there really are. I like the direction that they are taking with Heavy Rain and hope to God that those certain scenes that were put out on the internet are not censored because we NEED games pushing the envelope on this stuff.
Final Fantasy XIII
The first in the set between Agito and Versus, Final Fantasy XIII has us playing as Lightning and crew as they embark on some kind of epic adventure sure to include Chocobo's, some guy named Cid and much much more. :P
While I liked Final Fantasy XII due to a corrupted save file I could never bring myself to finishing it. I've gone on a bit of a media blackout with this game just so I could stand the wait also in hopes that I'll be truly shocked by the story and all that jazz. Also I think I'm the only one who actually likes the US version of theme song lol.
God of War III
God of War III has Kratos reuniting the war between the Titans and the Gods as he looks to seek revenge on the Gods.
Having just completed the original God of War I am absolutely pumped for this game. I can't believe I have let these games pass me up for so long. God of War I blew me away so I'm very very ready for III to do the same...hopefully.
EyePet
EyePet allows you to own a virtual pet with the use of the PSEYE and other accessories.
Okay my hype for this game is a bit of a guilty pleasure :P Most of my friends would mock me for getting this game but MAN how can you say no to that monkey thing?! EyePet looks like it can be some good fun and I'm not going to lie...I want it :3
ModNation Racers
ModNation Racers continues the Play Create Share concept started by LittleBigPlanet and brings it to Kart Racers. Modnation Racers will allow you to easily create your own race tracks and upload it online to allow others to play them.
I love Kart Racing games. I love LittleBigPlanet. I LOVE creating things. This is a no brainer for me, as this game looks to be making track creating extremely simple and intuitive. LittleBigPlanet is my go to game to play with my gf and I'm positive that ModNation racers will be the same. (Is jealous that my gf has a ModNation Racers beta code and I dont lol)
White Knight Chronicles
White Knight Chronicles is your typical save the princess story as well as focussing on transformation of characters into "Knights". WKC is created by Level 5, the creators of Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII.
Dragon Quest VIII was by far my favorite game from the last generation of consoles and made me a Level 5 fanboy. WKC looks to have an extensive amount of custimization and the online mode will hopefully give me at least a few hours of fun. From what I've seen WKC looks like it'll have an epic single player story and should last me for a very long time and many many playthroughs.
3D Dot Game Heroes
Made out to be a parody of many retro games 3D Dot Game Heroes places you in a world that many have called a sequel to Legend of Zelda and Link to the Past.
I've already made a post about this and if you've seen if you know I can't wait for this game. Developed by From Software who made one of my persona favorites Demon's Souls I can't wait to log hours upon hours in this game. There looks to be a large amount of customization and plenty of fun to be had. Also the music is amazing.
Games that probably won't be out in 2010 :( (In US)
