Can the Dishonored Franchise Continue After Death of the Outsider?

Is this the end for the Dishonored franchise?

Death of the Outsider is being cited as a satisfying conclusion to the acclaimed franchise. Giving one of the most iconic characters in the series, The Outsider, one final goodbye. However, does this mean that the Dishonored series needs to end now that the Outsider is gone? The answer is no.

Void Powers

The Outsider can grant his mark to anyone he chooses, giving them powerful supernatural abilities. However, in Death of the Outsider, Billie Lurk isn't given the Mark but instead powers of the void. These abilities are limited and cannot be upgraded like the powers given to Daude, Corvo, and Emily. This means that if the Dishonored franchise were to continue the use of powers could be explained as those who were connected to the Void or have been siphoning energy from this dark place.

The Cultist

One of the most shocking revelations in Dishonored 2 was that the Outsider was an artificial God. Created by a band of cultist calling themselves the Eyeless The Outsider was a commoner who was kidnapped and used in a dark ritual to grant him God-like powers. In Death of the Outsider, we learn that this "gift" was forced on him and that he wanted nothing more than to be free even if that meant death.

During the final mission, new information was given about the Eyeless. This included that they've lived for thousands of years, meaning they're older than the Outsider, and used him to feed the Void stating for "without the Outsider, the Void would hunger and roil, and the world itself would shudder". Now that the Outsider is gone what will happen in the Void? Will it collapse and seep into the world like the fracture pieces of reality we saw during Billie's adventure?

Other Gods

One of the biggest theories from the first Dishonored series regarding the Outsider was that he was a whale. This was debunked in Death of the Outsider but the Whales sharing a connection to the Void was confirmed. It was also hinted that other gods exist within the Void. If Arkane Studios does decide to make another Dishonored game perhaps it'll focus on one of these other gods. With the Outsider gone maybe the Eyeless fears about the Void will come to fruition, maybe he was holding something back. Or maybe the last Levithan will die and usher in the darkness that the Heart warned Corvo about in the first Dishonored. Regardless, the Void is older than the Outsider and has a lot of secrets waiting to be uncovered.

What do you think? Would you like to see another Dishonored game or do you believe that Mark of the Outsider was a solid end? Let us know in the comments below!
