Edge of Sanity provides a mix of survival horror and management, and the game can become pretty challenging between these two elements. You will face several enemies that will keep you on your feet and scared, all the while you constantly scavenge for supplies with a limited inventory.

This guide will show you various tips and tricks to survive through the horrors in Edge of Sanity.

Edge of Sanity, Tips & Tricks

The Lantern

The Lantern you start with is your best friend; it lights through the darkness and helps since the game can become pretty challenging. But its use is limited by its constant need for gas. The game does a remarkable job of giving you a false sense of danger throughout the many levels, utilizing the environment and audio. It also does its darndest to make you waste your precious time with the Lantern.

You should start conserving the Lantern's fuel, using it sparingly and only when needed. You should also use it in short bursts instead of constantly turning it on. As for the gas, you will find gas through the game at various levels, but this might vary. Eventually, you will unlock the recipe for making gas, which is unlocked as soon as you get your water station to level 3.

Companions

Another way to do well in Edge of Sanity is to ensure your companions are assigned the right jobs. Clair and Jackie have excellent skills that allow you to produce more water and food, respectively, giving you a massive boost in Chapter 1.

Later on, you will get the opportunity to unlock other companions who will have similarly useful skills, but you must always ensure they use their skills and not be tasked to do something inefficient. You should also make sure your companions get rest and are always well-supplied.

Inventory Management

This is a natural oversight many players might do in their first few playthroughs. You have a limited inventory, and with all the items you need that have their uses, you might just end up having only a few slots left for scavenged goods.

To this end, you should always try to be efficient and carry the bare necessities, stuff that you really need. This would probably be your knife, a few rocks, a medkit, and, of course, your Lantern. Later on, you will get an expanded inventory, but the amount of necessary equipment you need to carry will also increase.

Tactical Withdrawal

Throughout the game, you will encounter missions and levels where you have met your match and are about to die; in such cases, you can always just run away. Well, in some of the story missions, you might not get that luxury, but in most of them, you can return to camp and live to fight another day.

Conserve, not Hoard

Resources in the game are deceptively limited. While you always find a variety of things in your resource runs, it is just as easy to run out. So, in Edge of Sanity, managing what you have well and conserving things when you can is good practice.

In the game, you have a crafting system that allows you to create a lot of the things you have to scavenge in the early game, and often, you will start to hoard certain resources due to not being able to use them for much. Remember that in these cases, you should always ensure you're not needlessly keeping items in your storage and inventory. What good will 20 rocks do if you don't actually use them? 'A better opportunity will come up' is an understandable sentiment, but sometimes, it's best to use things when possible.
