Halo 5: Guardians Theory
While I wait for Halo 5 I'm going to predict what it's going to be about

I’m a huge fan of the Halo franchise. To this day Halo 2 remains my most played online game of all time, second to World of Warcraft. Now with the recent announcement of Halo 5: Guardians I cannot wait to purchase an Xbox One just for this game. But what is Halo 5: Guardians about and will it star Master Chief? After viewing the few screenshots available to the public, in addition to my understanding of the universe, I’ve created some theories about what the next game will be about. After all what else am I going to do while I wait for it?
It’s clear that although labeled a traitor Dr. Halsey still cares deeply for John but the UNSC doesn’t. In the opening cinematic Halsey questions whether this man interrogating her was looking to replace him. Although he responded that “The Master Chief is Dead” he never answer if they were going to replace him. While it could be theorized that the Spartan IV’s were to be the new Spartan IIs the cover image of Halo 5: Guardian does convey a different story.
After the events of Halo 4 Master Chief lost his beloved AI construct Cortana after she saved him from a nuclear explosion. Master Chief already showcased difficulty socializing with other humans and sociopathic tendencies, now with Cortana gone these psychological issues could manifest in palpable actions. On the cover of Halo 5: Guardians two figures are shown, one is Master Chief on the bottom and another soldier on top. Who is this warrior?
By analyzing the image it’s clear that he’s a UNSC soldier. My assumption is that he’s a new type of Spartan warrior since his armor resembles past MJOLNIR configurations and designs. Despite being one of the best the UNSC still sees the Master Chief as a threat. If he ever went insane and became uncontrollable the UNSC would need someone to take the Spartan down: who better for the job than another Spartan. After all the UNSC developed the Spartan IIIs and Spartan IVs, but none of them came close to the Spartan IIs. This mysterious warrior could be the next evolution of Spartans, maybe a Spartan V?
Why do I think Master Chief’s sanity is deteriorating? In the trailer shown during E3 2013 John was shown wearing tattered rags and exploring a desert while gripping Cortana’s former AI Unit. Judging from the trailer it can be assumed that Master Chief is searching for some way to revive his ally and that the UNSC isn’t assisting him in this campaign. If they were wouldn’t the military provide Chief with equipment better than a worn cloak? It’s entirely possible that if the UNSC refused to aid the warrior in reviving Cortana that he went rogue and is now declared a threat humanity. The Chief has done it before but now it’s clear that the UNSC is taking as many chances on Master Chief anymore.
What do you guys think, do you believe that the Master Chief losing Cortana has finally driven the legendary soldier to the breaking point? Has the UNSC developed a new Spartan V model to replace the last of the Spartan IIs? Sound off in the comment below with your own theory.
