I've been playing... Castlevania

Games by Daktary on  Jul 31, 2009

Yup, I've recently got my hands on two Castlevania games I haven't played before, both for the GBA, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. As I'm a big Castlevania fan, I couldn't bring myself to postpone playing them, so this is what I've been doing for the past 3 days :P I was taken mostly by surprise as I thought they will be like the classic NES games, not really huge and time consuming games as Symphony of the Night... Well, after finishing both(which took me some time), I can clearly say that these two games are the extremes of the Castlevania series(or at least what I have played form the series so far). I'm saying this because Aria of Sorrow, is without doubt the easiest Castlevania game I've ever played. I mean, I was shocked when I killed the final boss without even getting hit... as if this wasn’t enough, he can be killed with just 2 moves if you have the right soul and an idea on how to maximize the damage... Really, really strange, but a awesome game, nevertheless. On the other extreme, Circle of the Moon, gave me the biggest headache so far... Yes, I truly believe that this is the toughest game to beat form the Castlevania series. To demonstrate the game's extreme difficulty, I'll give my example from when I was fighting Dracula(the monsters are acceptable, but the bosses...). This guy has a pretty hard to dodge attack, that gives you a hefty 655 points damage, when your total life is of 730HP... so you can see the odds of winning against him, without using cheats... Besides this the game has also some oddities, and I mean that although you pick up and use various items, you cannot change your weapon(the whip). Instead, the developers left you a little surprise in the form of combo cards, which have various effects on your weapons or yourself. Well, this wouldn't be too much of a fuss, but in my whole period playing the game I managed to find only 7 cards, from the 20 cards total, and you can guess they weren't the best(and consumed a lot of mana...). Nevertheless there's a glitch that lets you use any kind of combination of cards, even though you don't own them... Ah, well... I guess there should be something there to even the difficulty, a bit… In conclusion, my mark for both the games is 9.5. Both are good in their own unique way, but are lacking that something that Symphony of the Night has for the grand 10.00 :P
Other than this, I have a small update for my situation with the universities... I've withdrawn my papers form the Applied Informatics uni, as I was still on the waiting list after the second phase and there weren't too many chances for me to go there... BUT... on the other hand, I was redistributed to the no tax places at the IT division of the other uni which was a big surprise and relief, as the school taxes are really high(not the highest possible, but high enough…). There are also big chances for me to obtain a place at the hostel so everything is almost alright. (I'm saying alright because) The only thing I have to do now is to find a pub or something that serves cheap and good beer. :P
