Meet The Dalf

People by Fishdalf on  Feb 15, 2009

Well seen as this site is new and not a lot of people know me, I thought I would take the time to tell you a little bit about myself. Hopefully you will do the same, and that way we will get to know a little bit more about each other.

Personal

Username: fishdalf
How my username came into existence is a rather dull story but many people have requested it in the past so here goes. I used to be a huge fan of GunBound, a free online game which my friend introduced me to. I lost almost a year of my life to that game and I used to be amongst the best players around. The game allowed you to dress up in various attire and I would always choose water-themed items, I combined this and my huge love for Pokemon to become known as the deadly Fishachu. Then came GameSpot  and at that point in my life I was a huge Battle for Middle Earth fanboy and the leader of one of the biggest guilds around (GRIM). So I took my GunBound name and I combined it with the strongest character BFME had to offer (Gandalf) to become the familiar name I possess today.

Profession: Security Guard
I have been trying my hardest to get out of the security profession. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the actual work, it’s the pay that I cannot live with. I’m earning just over minimum wage at the moment and I’m finally at that point in my life when I need to be saving up so I can eventually settle down.

Residence: England, UK
It’s ok living in England I guess. I’m actually from the town of Liverpool, a place most people will generally associate with The Beatles. Everybody loves The Beatles right? Well not everybody, I’m not the biggest fan to be honest. It actually kind of bugs me when I’m expected to love them just because of where I was born and grew up, sure I can appreciate what they did for music, but that’s as far as it goes.

Favourites

Gaming

Series: Pro Evolution Soccer
I obviously love a lot of games and a lot of gaming series, but Pro Evolution Soccer is one of those games I can play no matter what the mood. It’s also the series I’ve dedicated the most time to throughout my entire gaming experience.

Character: Yoshi
Who doesn’t love this little guy? My love affair with him began with the original Mario Kart on the SNES and I still play as him in every single Nintendo title that comes along.

Console: Nintendo 64
Every time I think of the Nintendo 64 I get that overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, and I don’t think I have a single bad memory of my time with it. The pinnacle for me would have to be the crazy four player sessions we would have on Mario Kart 64.

Music

Bands: Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers
Vocalist: Jack Black
Guitarist: John Frusciante

Song: High by Lighthouse Family
A few years back I was listening away to this song when I get a phone call from the hospital, thinking it was the news of my grandma finally coming home I met the call with enthusiasm. A somber voice explained to me that my grandma only had a very short time to live; it felt like my heart has just been ripped out through my mouth and thrown back at me. I made my way back to the PC and sat with my headphones on for what seemed an eternity, listening to this one song over and over again. I was obviously devastated but somehow the warm tones kept telling me everything was going to be OK, I know this sounds strange but I genuinely couldn’t have got through that experience without the aid of this song. I could completely relate to the lyrics and only wish I had requested it for her funeral. This song sends me to tears almost every time I hear it and makes for some pretty awkward situations in public but it’s undoubtedly my favourite song of all time.

Solo: Sweet Child O' Mine
Sweet Child O' Mine is a fantastic song in so many ways, not only has it been voted as having the best riff of any song in the history of music time and time again but it also boasts a stunning solo. Why is it better than November Rain and Don't Cry? I just feel that this one speaks to you on so many levels, it also offers a whole lot more variety and never seems to get old no matter how many times you listen to it. It was also voted the coolest solo ever by the readers of Rolling Stones magazine and I don't think there's much doubting that, it's probably been played more times on the air guitar than any song to date. Still unsure as to whether it deserves top spot? Go give the song a listen through and then come back with an opinion.

Facts

o The one and only job I have ever had is as a security guard, I’ve never quit but so far I have worked for a total of 5 different security firms.

o I have a Liverpool FC tattoo on my left arm, its red with a black border and have the initials LFC below. I got it done in a caravan whilst on holiday and unfortunately the writing is a little wonky.

o I'm only 23 and I’m already going grey, plus my dad and his dad were bald as well as my mums dad, so the future doesn't look too bright.

o I have been a part of gaming sites for the last eight years.

o My number one holiday destination would be New York; I plan on going there as soon as possible. Other places I’d like to visit include: Japan, Six Flags (Magic Mountain, CA), Disneyland, Las Vegas, Yellowstone Park and Rome. I've never been abroad so the sooner the better.

o My favourite food ever is a dessert called ‘The Chocolate Monster’ or sometimes ‘The Mega Sundae’ and is found in most local restaurants in my area, it's made up of cream, vanilla and chocolate ice-cream, profiteroles, flakes, wafers, chocolate buttons, chocolate crunchie bits, chocolate cake and strawberry syrup. In fact sometimes it's my only motivation in going for a meal in the first place.
