My Dream Avatar The Last Airbender Game

Maybe tie-in games don’t have to be that bad.

With such an amazing show with a die-hard fanbase, you would expect some amazing games to come out of this series, yet we are left with a simple tie in beat em ups, going all the way back to the PS2, which I am surprised that the games go back that far, but still, it didn’t live up to what the show is. For me, it is an amazingly told storey with loveable characters and meaningful ideas thrown in. Also a very unique world with references to Chinese and Japanese culture. If that brief outlook of the show doesn’t make you want to watch it, I don’t know what will. But the topic of the video game coming from this show comes up again because it has recently been put onto Netflix for a lot of people to watch again or even for the first time, so what better time to bring up my perfect idea for an Avatar the Last Airbender game and how amazing it could be. I am not going to throw any ideas out of the realm of possibility, like a fully VR game that you’ll be stuck in forever and live in a perfect world with one million possible endings. This is just my ideas of what could be possible with what we have.

Dream Avatar, The Last Airbender, Game

The original show has a group travelling around different parts of a very interesting world, with many different cultures and ways of living. In the modern video game industry, it seems like every second game is open-world with little but cookie-cutter tasks to do. But it still has its upsides and can be used in this game, travelling from the four different nations and talking to the locals, consuming lots of different places and getting into trouble and helping other people out, these have been done correctly in games by Bethesda and Obsidian. So with this expansive world, it could make for a very interesting way to play and generally, I think if an open world is done right, it can make for a much better game with lots of fun things to do. Secondly, a game like this needs to have a good combat system, as that’s basically the main themes of the show, war and fighting. For this, it would be very similar to games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, the ability to build up combos would be an amazing fit as you are the avatar meaning you would have 4 different ways to fight, and chaining them together could be very entertaining but would also suit well with the game. All these points put together could make a very unique and different game as many modern games feel very alike this could be just what we need to shake things up in a way and add new ideas.

Tie-in games have certainly gotten a bad wrap, which is well deserved sometimes because they are usually there for either a parent who doesn’t know better or simply to cash in on whatever film it’s being sold alongside. But sometimes they can be very well done, for example, “Shadow of Mordor” was technically a tie-in with The Hobbit movies coming out at the time, and was still an amazing game. Also, the Tomb Raider movie completely changed the design of the games after it. There are reasons for games based on an original product to be looked down on as sometimes they just don’t live up to what they could be, and similarly, movies based on games are mostly horrible. So maybe during the live-action remake of the show, we will see an amazing game that the show truly deserves.
