My PS3 vs. 360 Thoughts

Editorial by EliteEdge on  Jul 26, 2009

After just winning an Xbox 360 I am pleased to say it is a great console that will use most of my time. The PS3 is still as amazing as ever and is sitting right next to its new brother. So I thought that after owning both consoles and getting to experiance the good and bad of each one I would type this little comparison to tell what I think the better is. I do not and will not have a favorite console but I will tell which things are best on which console. Keep in mind this is only my personal opinion so if you have different feelings thats good for you. This is what I think.

Design:

Both consoles are big in size. The PS3 is shiney but it does attract dust. 360 is a nice plasticish design and has its own form of shiney to it. It does not attract dust in the same way the PlayStaion 3 does, however the way the disk drive comes out of the 360 causes the disk to slip out when the Xbox is sitting verticle. Xbox 360 is considerably louder then PlayStation 3 when you do not have games installed to the hard drive. In the end I find the PlayStation 3 has the better design thanks to its shine and softer noice when a disk is running.

Controller:

We have two controllers here; one that is wider (PS3), another that is fatter (360). It all depends on the person's hands that are using it. Sometimes it depends on the type of game you are playing as it is for me. The 360 controller feels better on games where you are mashing buttons a lot faster and moving the duel sticks more quicker. The 360 controller feels a lot stronger then the PS3. The PS3 controller I find better for racing ****and rpgs. The addition of six-axis is a huge plus on the PlayStation 3. I found myself moving the 360 contoller many times when trying to throw a grenade on Gears of War the way you would on Uncharted. Six-axis is a lot of fun on racing games as well when you want to steer a car with the controller. The triggers on the back are different. I find the 360 is better for trigger use. Just the shape and size is what makes them so much better. The PS3 controller leaves your finger slipping off a number of times. Its a close call when it comes to the controller but I think I prefer the PS3 controller.

Games:

What to say? Games are what make up a console. But when it comes to these two they either have similar games or the same games. They have about the same number of exclusives however when it comes to quality of exclusives I think the PS3 does better. But you can judge by exclusives alone. Multiplatform titles are just as important. I feel the 360 delivers more on those. In the future I will probably get most of my games on 360 and purshase games for PS3 when they are exclusive or appear better on that console. Also games originally only on PlayStation such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and Prince of Persia I will be getting on the PS3. You have many games to download too. There are more games on the Xbox Marketplace then the PlayStation Store which is one of the reasons I feel the 360 is better for gaming. However if you own both a PS3 and 360 dont forget about your PS3 as it is a wonderful game console and should not be under played.

Online Services:

PSN or XBL? I am going to come out and say that I think Xbox Live is the better online. Sure you have to pay $50 a year for a Gold Subscription but it is worth it. I do feel Gold Subscribers should have an ad. free invironment but Live is not perfect. The reasons for why I think it is better are the fact that you have far more profile options, more interaction with friends, and more services. You have or will have Last.FM, Facebook, Twitter (This won it for 360), Netflix, a movie marketplace, a games marketplace, video streaming (you dont have to download to watch featured videos), and deal of the week. There are a few smaller things that help make it great as well. PSN is wonderful, and it is free, but Live just does things better. However PSN has more/better movies then the Marketplace. The fact that there are more people on Xbox Live is a big plus. Both have great games to download but as I said above the 360 seems to have more and better. PlayStation Network is doing a good job keeping up with XBL and has a promising future. 360 has Avatars and PS3 has Home. Both are nice little extras and we have seen support from games. There are games on 360 that use the players' Avatar as a character. PS3 puts items from games into Home for your character's use. It also makes areas from games visitable. Both work well and have improved after launch; PlayStation Home having the biggest and best improvements. A downside to Xbox Live would be that they charge for a lot more then PlayStation Network. Themes, Gamer Pics, they all cost. Sure there are free ones available but the best are gonna cost ya! This is another thing I wish we Gold members got free. Gamer pics and themes. Charge the Silver members, not the ones that fork out $50 a year. But Xbox 360 is Microsoft's console and Microsoft can do what they want. Hey. If it makes money and works, why not do it?

Multimedia:

PlayStation 3 brings you the best multimedia experiance. I didnt even have to think about this. You can upload more music files, the video player is better, it plays Blu-Rays, the picture viewer is better and it lets you make your own wallpaper. When it comes to videos, music, or even pictures the PS3 is the better platform for it.

Accessories:

There are a number of accessories on the market for each of the two consoles. However there does seem to be more for the 360. Probably the most important to note are the upcoming motion contolls by Sony and Mircrosoft. We have the unnamed controlls by Sony which will use the PlayStation Eye and a remote or possibly common household objects. Then we have Natal, a camera for the Xbox 360 which can analyze body movements, recognize voices, and even scan objects and put them into the game. 360 does the best with accessories in my opinion.

Final Thoughts:

I am so happy to own both a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. They are both great consoles and you are lucky to have them in your generation. Think what our parents and grandparents had. Think what our kids will have. Both consoles have a great future ahead of them. Both have their goods and bads. Both will have 100% support from me. Thanks for reading and please leave your comments bellow.

One final thought. I cant wait for the 360 to get Twitter!
