PES 2017 Guide
In the World Class or Top Player modes if you're to win a single game, you must know what you're doing.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 has brought a whole new type of challenge this year, and those who are already experiencing it know that the gameplay is harder than the previous games, and it's a lot more realistic. If you're to win games, you must apply strategies and techniques to defeat the opposition.
In the World Class or Top Player modes, if you're to win a single game, you must know what you're doing. Simply running with the ball and kicking won't bring any win. I suggest you start with the Master League and learn the gameplay better before moving into myClub because it can be a frustrating start when on a continuous losing streak.
So below are some tips that will surely give you the start you need with PES
Training
I feel this is the most important way to get a feel for the changes in the crossing, dribbling, and shooting mechanics. The "Attacking Situations" Training is amazing. Spend an hour on it, and I guarantee you will be scoring again.
Game Speed: This has been useful for a few years now to create more realism in the game, but this year, slowing down the game a notch or two really allows you to play a better, more methodical game. This is mainly because there is a greater emphasis on positioning and passing due to the reduced effectiveness of speed.
Free Kicks
Directions - you don't have to meddle with up or down for this; just position the swerve of the kick horizontally. I'm sure a little up/down helps, but I don't see it as worth the risk. The Free kicks are vastly improved I feel, as now you need to bend it around the wall and because of the stick aiming mechnic, there are more variables to the aiming - you can't just consistently keep hitting the top corner.
Power - Of course, it depends on how far away you are, but for most situations, slightly more than half is good. The sweet spot is when the power bar leaves green and reaches just a little orange.
Dribbling
Dribbling is so much harder now. I used to just dribble past players with the L stick and a little of the R-down, L-up trick. None of these works in 2017. The most effective for me has been holding R2 and L down or simply holding down the right stick to sidestep an opponent. If you are blasting down the wing, pressing R-forward (to the direction you are running) and L-backwards is still useful with a nice back-heel or turn.
Finishing
In The Box: If you are putting a lot of open chances wide, you are not the only one. Anything close range with time to spare, you should be trying a Finesse shot. Try to remember the dominant foot of your attacker, "open" his body towards the goal (face the goal), and aim at the side of his dominant foot (preferably far post).
From Distance: For long-distance shots, you have to blast them unless the keeper is out of position. Some players have a knuckle-shot specialty, and you can activate this by tapping the shoot button again just before he hits the ball.
One-on-ones: These are generally still easy with the finesse shot, but a surefire way for me is to run sideways when the keeper is close enough and dink it over him with a chip (L1+shoot). I like this because, at close distances, you have two ways to beat the keeper. Sometimes, I gauge the power wrongly, and the arc of the chip isn't enough to beat the keeper, but it still goes past him because it is beyond his reach horizontally.
Tackling
I found it much more effective to run towards the attacker without holding X. I only hold X when I'm really near the attacker. Also, did you know that pressing X a second time activates a 'foot-out' tackle? I had been doing this a lot unintentionally until I read the manual and learned this command. The X-X tackle is really useful, but it takes your defender out completely if you miss it.
Tactics
Attacking Mentality: Pressing up-down on the controller increases or decreases your team's attacking mentality. Pressing left-right increases or decreases your defensive line.
General Playstyle: In general, the Klopp manner of gegenpressing and then really a direct play of one-two exchanges and through balls has always been my favorite style of play. This has been nearly impossible for me. The most effective playstyle for me so far is to keep passing the ball around while I wait for openings.
Playing One-Twos: This has been my most effective way of getting the ball forward. Hold L1+pass to get the ball rolling and press Triangle for a through pass before the ball reaches the 2nd player. You would want to aim this at a 45-degree angle.
