Cyberpunk 2077 fans are excited because CD Projekt Red has been dropping hints that a new DLC or expansion is on the way. The studio has been posting vague pictures of new characters and encrypted data on social media, which has made people wonder what will happen next with the popular open-world RPG.
When the Cyberpunk Twitter account shared a bunch of birthday posts for characters, that was the first clue. As part of a new in-game calendar, the studio drew attention to dates that had strange encrypted data. There was no blank space in these "encrypted" slots; instead, they were filled with the message "encrypted data," which made fans wonder if the new characters might be connected to a new DLC.
The fact that these characters don't look like they belong to the Edge Runners anime series makes many fans think that they are part of a brand-new expansion and not the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Orion.
The strange messages made people wonder, but CD Projekt Red's most recent earnings call gives us more information. The company said they expect to make a lot of money in the next 18 months, maybe even more than the success of Phantom Liberty, the well-reviewed expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. A lot of people think that a new DLC, possibly connected to the new Cyberpunk anime series, could help them reach their financial goal.
More people are excited about Cyberpunk 2077 because it will soon be available on Mac and the Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version has been praised for being of high quality, and the Ultimate Edition, which comes with Phantom Liberty content, costs $69.99. Cross-progression also lets players switch between platforms, which makes it easier than ever for fans to play on more than one device.
Along with the DLC rumors, many Cyberpunk fans can't wait for Project Orion, the next game in the series, to come out. Even though the game hasn't come out yet, CD Projekt Red has promised that it will have multiplayer and co-op modes. This was originally planned for Cyberpunk 2077 but was shelved. Fans are hopeful that Orion will keep its promises and improve the multiplayer experience.
Even with these promises, Project Orion probably won't come out until after The Witcher 4, around 2028 or later. Fans can only guess what will happen next with the show for now. Mike Pondsmith, who made Cyberpunk, recently said that he's working on adding more to the stories of well-known characters like Morgan Blackhand. The character, who has become a fan favorite, is likely to play a big part in Project Orion, which makes people even more excited for the game to come out.
Along with new content, CD Projekt Red has been working with Scopely, a company known for making Marvel Strikeforce and other mobile games, on a mobile Cyberpunk game. The mysterious mobile game could add to the Cyberpunk world in new and interesting ways, giving fans new ways to interact with the world while they're on the go.
It's great that the studio is focusing on new content and expansions, but some people are worried about where the next Cyberpunk anime projects will go. Netflix has said that they are making a new Cyberpunk anime, but it will not be a continuation of Edgerunners. These facts have caused some doubts, especially since Netflix will be animating the show on its own instead of hiring well-known studios like Studio Trigger. Fans are cautiously optimistic, though, hoping that the new show will live up to the high standards that Edgerunners set.
Even though more details haven't been released yet, it's clear that CD Projekt Red has big plans for the Cyberpunk world. The Cyberpunk world doesn't seem to be finished yet, as evidenced by Project Orion, a new DLC, and an expanded story. The future looks bright, with lots of new content and immersive experiences to discover. Keep an eye out for more news as it comes in.
