Pro Evo 2010: First Look

by Fishdalf on  Jul 16, 2009

While the game doesn’t have an official release date as of yet news is coming thick and fast, and judging by what we’ve heard so far; the competition between Pro Evolution Soccer and Fifa has never been more hotly contested.

One of the big plus points from early testing is just how well the game plays at this early stage, promising signs for fans, who must have feared disaster in the past when near-final builds looked more than a little shaky. Sadly we can’t give you much more in terms of gameplay at the moment because it’s too early, but thing’s are looking rosy up to now.

What is in early builds is a new tactics system that allows the player to tweak the defensive and attacking aspects of their team in much great detail, via 100-point scales. By sliding these up and down you can set-up exactly how you’d like your team to play, and the changes appear quite noticeable.

However, the most impressive thing coming from early preview builds is how impressive the player likenesses are, a huge step up even from Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. While the only two teams playable in the early tech demo are Liverpool and Barcelona; you can already see drastic improvements.

Alonso in particular has seen the biggest change. Last years model was embarrassing, they didn’t even get the hair right. Now, as you can see; it’s pretty darn life-like. It’s not just faces that have seen an overhaul though; other fine details have been introduced and refined, including more realistic rippling effects on player’s shirts and shorts.

Players will also see changes to their stats in the form of a card-based system. Each player can now be assigned up to five cards that refine player attributes, and allow for more realism in certain situations. For example, you can now grant Agger the ability to come forward from defence and move further up the field, you can also switch on his ability to shoot from anywhere when it’s best to do so.

Look out for our full preview in the coming months.
