Since its debut back at E3 2018, Resident Evil 2 2019 has been one of the most anticipated games of 2019; and 2018 still isn't over. We had the chance to play through both Leon and Claire's campaign during NYCC 2018 and not only does it capture the uneasy tension found in the original release but the modern graphics give this acclaimed title a modern feel. Those who played the original will still be unprepared to face the horrors of Leon and Claire's nightmarish night.
Leon's campaign focuses when the rookie first entered the RPD. Armed with his gun and a small understanding of the horrors that walk the street Leon attempts to search for survivors and establish the RPD as a base of operation. Fans will instantly recognize the layout as the developers have captured the entire RPD's architecture right down to the room layout. However, this night will play out differently.
Unlike the original Leon heads out to search for survivors instead of meeting the Police Chief, leading to a tense fight between multiple infected. The use of Resident Evil 4 style controls helps increase the level of mobility and awareness. The infected are much more resistance here though, with headshots being much more paramount as the infected will burn through any other type of damage. The campaign ends with Leon now aware of the dire situation he's in as he tries to search for survivors once again.
Claire's campaign is much more action-packed. With Claire facing against Dr. William Birkin, who is just as deadly as he was in the original game. The pulsing creature hurls his massive arm towards Claire and rubs off any type of bullet damage. Hence begins a tense match of cat and mouse as you attempt to scavenge powerful grenade-based weapons to deal any damage you can. Birkin will use the environment to his advantage, hiding in steam and using the ledges to take Claire by surprise. And seeing a hulking beast leap from the sky is just as terrifying as it sounds.
Resident Evil 2 2019 captures the same atmospheric the original had. The modern graphics aid in depicting the grotesque blood and gore that brought a new sense of fear from what used to be outdated zombies. Whether you're new to the franchise or coming in fresh one thing is for certain, Resident Evil 2 2019 is going to conjure lots of nightmares.
Resident Evil 2 2019 launches on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this January 25th, 2019.
