Night City is about to buzz with new life once again because, despite previous claims that Phantom Liberty marked the end of the road for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Update 2.3 is coming—and it's arriving sooner than anyone expected. This unexpected patch, which is set to come out on June 26, has caused a lot of talk, hope, and joy in the Cyberpunk community. Support center leaks, developers' hints, and information gathered by fans all suggest that this update could be more than just bug fixes.

To understand the magnitude of this moment, it is necessary to revisit the timeline. When Phantom Liberty launched in late 2023, CD Projekt Red was firm in saying that this expansion would be the final major addition to Cyberpunk 2077. Patch 2.2 followed in early 2024, offering further stability and improvements, but with little fanfare, the narrative seemed clear: the studio was shifting its focus entirely to its next big projects, The Witcher 4 and the Cyberpunk sequel, codenamed Project Orion.

Then came the cryptic messages. CDPR's Global Community Director dropped a blunt statement on social media: "We're not done yet." That was followed by Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko, who fueled the fire with a bold comment: "We've been cooking for you in secret." Notably, neither developer clarified whether this was referring to minor fixes or a more substantial addition to the game, leaving fans hanging with one burning question—what exactly is Update 2.3?

One of the biggest clues came from an unexpected source: Virtuos, a support studio with a history of assisting CDPR on prior Cyberpunk content. A now-deleted LinkedIn post from a Virtuos writer mentioned ongoing work on new DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, including additional side quests and character dialogue. While the term "DLC" here might not mean a massive expansion like Phantom Liberty, it still implies meaningful content—likely free additions that enrich the existing game. The fact that the post vanished not long after being discovered only strengthens suspicions that something major is indeed in the pipeline.

A calendar image with an anniversary theme that CDPR put out earlier this year has also led to a lot of talk about new characters. It had some familiar faces from the game, but fans quickly noticed a whole row of characters they didn't know. This led to the idea that these might be secret NPCs that will be added in later updates. Combined with the Virtuos claims, it's easy to imagine that new story gigs or narrative expansions could be the centerpiece of Update 2.3.

But what else could be included? Quality of life improvements are all but guaranteed. Every Cyberpunk patch has brought with it fixes and enhancements, and given CDPR's ongoing dedication to polish, this trend is likely to continue. Enhancements for upcoming hardware like the Nintendo Switch 2, which has reportedly received internal test builds of Cyberpunk 2077, could also be part of the rollout.

Another highly requested tool from the community is visible, cosmetic cyberware. While the game already includes impressive augmentation options, most cyberware remains invisible during gameplay. Fans have long wanted the ability to see metal arms, facial enhancements, and glowing implants that match the aesthetics of NPCs scattered throughout Night City. Update 2.3 could finally bring this long-overdue immersion upgrade, turning V into the chrome-covered mercenary players have always envisioned.

Even more ambitious—but no less tantalizing—are hopes for a system of dynamic encounters. Street events, emergent scenarios, or side material that changes over time could bring the city new life, making each trip through its neon-lit streets feel unique. Radiant quest systems have already been tried out by modders for the PC version, and CDPR has shown interest in adding some mod-inspired features to the official versions. While it's a long shot, the groundwork is already there for the devs to expand the game's depth in ways few expected at this stage.

There are also calls for a dedicated PS5 Pro patch to take advantage of the upcoming console's increased power. While CDPR hasn't confirmed this, some players remain hopeful. A more realistic addition, however, would be further optimization for current-gen platforms, which could include minor graphical boosts or performance stability improvements, especially on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Of course, some community requests remain unlikely. New Game Plus, while a staple in many RPGs, has been consistently ruled out by CDPR due to the complexity of their branching narrative systems. Similarly, third-person mode is improbable, as character animations and dialogues were built entirely with first-person immersion in mind. These features are often mentioned but remain beyond the scope of what Update 2.3 is expected to deliver.

What is most likely is a content-rich farewell to one of gaming's most dramatic redemption arcs. CDPR has already gone above and beyond in their mission to restore Cyberpunk 2077's reputation, and Update 2.3 may well be their final bow before passing the torch to Orion. If it includes a handful of compelling side missions, cosmetic upgrades, and a few surprises hidden in the alleys of Night City, it will serve as the perfect closing chapter to a game that has evolved from disappointment to masterpiece.

Mark your calendars for June 26. Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 isn't just another patch—it's a signal that Night City still has secrets to tell. Whether you're a returning merc or a first-time traveler, the city is ready to welcome you back for one more ride.
