Free Roam becomes available after approximately six hours of campaign progression in Mind's Eye. Upon completing the mission to reach the Bunker, the Free Roam feature unlocks alongside access to Story Mode and Free Mode.

At any point after unlocking, open the Start Menu and select Play. Within this section, players will find options for returning to earlier missions, engaging in side quests, or entering Free Roam.

The selection labeled Free Roam—often accompanied by the prompt Build a Rocket Boy and a description to explore Red Rock City—grants immediate entry to the open world.

Free Roam Interface

The character starts in front of a simple Safe House when they enter Free Roam. The mini-map on the screen shows different icons for side tasks, races, and mercenary requests. There is always access to the Start Menu, which makes going back to the primary mission easy.

Safe House Features

The initial Safe House offers limited interactive elements. A Camera station allows an external view of the surrounding environment, while a Drone console provides a brief entertainment option.

A small Radio Station setup gives the impression of hosting a personal broadcast. No wardrobe, customization station, or upgrade workbench is present at this stage.

Vehicle Options and Challenges

At the start of Free Roam, you are given a basic car that moves slowly and isn't easy to control. When you use map icons to try to get other cars, you often start automatic races.

If the player picks up a race sign, the chosen car goes into timed trials right away. Upon race completion, whether with a bronze or higher ranking, the vehicle self-destructs, leaving no opportunity to roam in that model freely.

Mini Objectives and Races

Scattered across Red Rock City are icons denoting races and time-based challenges. Engaging any of these icons transports the player into the corresponding event—requiring completion before further exploration.

Bronze-level times still yield no post-race rewards apart from completion status.

Weapon and Arsenal Progression

Specific map markers reveal combat encounters where defeated foes drop weapons. Clearing these encounters gradually increases the character's arsenal. Exploration near a distinctive Castle-shaped icon often rewards higher-tier weaponry. Vehicles cannot be commandeered off the street, and there are no in-game shops or currency to facilitate upgrades.

Mercenary Missions

Non-player characters identified as NPCs offer Mercenary side quests. Interacting with an NPC icon initiates tasks such as infiltrating nearby bases.

Players are transported via a Jeep to the mission site, where objectives resemble small-scale campaign missions. Successful completion yields additional weapons but does not grant vehicle or character customization.
