Which is the better South Park game?

Back in 2014 South Park: The Stick of Truth released to positive acclaim from both critics and gamers for its excellent adaptation of the popular television series. South Park: The Fractured But Whole maintains this authentic atmosphere by delivering the same genuine experience of being part of a South Park episode with notable changes to the gameplay system. However, which is the better South Park game. Does The Stick of Truth remain the ideal South Park video game or does The Fractured But Whole take the title?

Story

It's hard to argue which story was better. Both the Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole provide fantastic absurd narratives full of controversial issues and gut-busting laugh-out-loud moments. Stick of Truth does have a much more streamlined story with the central focus being The Stick of Truth whereas The Fractured But Whole takes diverging turns. The Stick of Truth does have a much more satisfying conclusion but The Fractured But Whole provides an open-ended finish. Ultimately this one is more about taste, do you prefer the Superhero themes of The Fractured But Whole or the fantasy world in The Stick of Truth?

Gameplay

The Stick of Truth, like The Fractured But Whole, provided a colorful range of moves that fit each character's persona. Cartman and Kyle used magical attacks while characters like Stan utilized melee strikes. This is similar with The Fractured But Whole with each hero having access to 4 attacks unique to their persona. While The Fractured But Whole did have more characters what gives it an advantage over The Stick of Truth if the challenge and tactical system.

The Stick of Truth's battle system was barebones, players would equip the most powerful items to defeat increasingly difficult enemies. The ability to use an item and attack during the same turn made even the hardest difficulty a breeze. Regardless of the challenge, both games offered a healthy variation of missions and environments to explore. Some of which had players traveling to outer space and through time itself.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole's tactical system makes the game a lot more challenging. Now classes matter a lot more since each character has a set of unique abilities and stats that make certain heroes tailored for particular situations. The position also plays a massive role as attacks take up definite squares within the grid. While players can plow through most enemies using powerful artifacts certain items the ability to change your costume into anything makes the system malleable, unlike The Stick of Truth's rigid leveling system.

Soundtrack

Both games have outstanding voice-acting. Every character throughout both adventures was incredible and delivered phenomenal performances that mirror the television show. What sets both games apart is the original soundtrack. Unlike The Stick of Truth, The Fractured but Whole didn't have many memorable tracks. The Stick of Truth, on the other hand, had many outstanding tracks from the minor fights to boss battles.

Winner: South Park: The Stick of Truth
