With the availability of PS Play for Steam Deck OLED and LCD, remote streaming from a PS5 has never been better. Here, we walk you through seven straightforward steps—from installation and activation to custom artwork and control mapping—so you can enjoy seamless gameplay at home or on the go.

Download PS Play
Begin in Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck. Open your selected browser and go to the official PlayStation website. You can first try the Linux demo to get a feel for the interface, then download the full PS Play v1.1 ZIP.
After purchase, note that your license key is tied to the email you enter, so double‑check it carefully before completing the transaction.
Install PS Play
Locate the downloaded ZIP in your Downloads folder, extract it, and open the resulting folder. Click the Split icon, choose the path Home → Deck → Applications, then drag the PS Play AppImage into that Applications folder.
If you don't see an Applications folder, you may need to install an AppImage launcher, refer to guides for adding non‑Steam apps to the Deck for details.
Add PS Play to Steam
Switch back to Gaming Mode and open Steam. Click "Add a Game" in the bottom‑left corner, select "Add a Non‑Steam Game," scroll until you find PS Play, check it, and hit "Add Selected Programs.
You'll now see PS Play under the Non‑Steam tab in your library. Launch it to proceed.
Activate PS Play
When you initially launch, select "Purchase License" (even if you have previously purchased it elsewhere) and click the key icon in the top-right corner. Press Steam+X to summon the on‑screen keyboard, then enter the email and license key you received.
Including each dash precisely ensures activation succeeds. Once confirmed, your same key can activate PS Play on multiple devices.

Register Your PS5 Console
Click "Register New PS," select your console, and on your PS5 navigate to Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device. Keep that screen active while you type the registration code into PS Play on the Deck. Next, provide your PSN username when prompted, then click "Register PS5".
Once registration completes, select your console from PS Play, choose Local Connect for home streaming or Remote Connect for away‑from‑home play, and enjoy instant access to your full game library with virtually no lag.
Customize Game Artwork
In Gaming Mode, highlight PS Play, press the Start button, and choose "Change Artwork." If SteamDB DeckIt isn't already set up, follow its installation guide to enable custom art. Since PS Play is new, searching DeckIt under "PS Play" may return no images. Switch the filter to a third‑party app name to find suitable capsules and backgrounds, then apply them for a polished look in your library.
Map Controls for DualSense Features
Press the Steam button, choose Controller Settings, and open your current layout. Under Community Layouts, press X to view all options. We recommend "PS Play Simple Gamepad by FPS Doug": press A to select, X to apply.
Now your left touchpad serves as the PS button, and the right pad emulates the DualSense touchpad—essential for many PS5 titles.
Tweak Streaming Settings
Open PS Play's Settings and spend a minute adjusting resolution and bitrate. If you prefer a sharper image, switch from 1080p to 720p. However, if your connection struggles, lower the bitrate from Auto to approximately 2500 kbps. These quick tweaks can make the difference between smooth 60 fps action and stutter.

Streaming Over Cellular
To play away from home, enable your phone's Personal Hotspot. On a 4G connection delivering 22 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up, we still enjoyed responsive gameplay.
In Steam Deck Settings → Internet, select your hotspot and connect.
Back in PS Play, choose Remote Connect → Automatic, then complete the PSN login and token exchange via the in‑app browser (you may need to troubleshoot URL copying initially).
Once authenticated, you're free to stream your PS5 from anywhere with a mobile signal—no bulky capture cards required.
Now, enjoy exploring new titles on your Deck with PS Play's rock‑solid home streaming and exciting away‑from‑home capabilities. Let us know how your setup goes and what games you're remote playing next!
