Chapter 3:
Alessandra
I woke up hours later. My eyes where still full of sleep, so it took time to for me to realize I was still in the chair that I fell asleep in. Something was off; I could feel it in my heart. I looked around, and then the fear started to rise. No one was around, no guards, no assistants, not even she was near... I look across the hall to the far end, to the balcony. From what I could see it was still dark out but several rays where starting to break the sky. Dusk was starting. I stood up and walked across to the balcony. I saw her, standing there hands on the rails looking out at the lands, her white dress flowing in the soft morning wind. The silks wrap around her and show her female charms and soft lovely figure, yet toned from her normal trainings every day. I stopped at the door way and watched her from a moment, watching her breath slowly rise up in the cool morning air.
“Good morning, Ricardo.”
“Good morning, my love, seems I can’t hide from you.” She giggles softly but she still looks forward. Her tone suddenly turns every serious.
“Ricardo, King Sarwar needs to talk to you.”
“Well where is he? I’ll talk with him” I start to step closer to her.
“Stop, don’t come near me… It’s not safe.”
“What do you mean? My kingdom is the safest place in all the lands we control. Even theunderground bases aren’t as safe as this area… That’s why I wanted this area… I wanted a place for our kids to grow up safe.”
“I know, but it’s not safe… Sorry but I can’t let you over here, there’s a reason you can’t leave the castle right now.”
“I can’t leave my own castle… My love I’ll show you its safe.” I walk up to her and place an arm around her. She calmly waits as I kiss her cheek, not once does she turn to look at me. My eyes slowly start to wonder from her image of perfection, to see where her eyes, her gaze, won’t move from.
Then I saw it.
My army was charging out of the gates in to the lower lands. Past the gates the land is dark. I watch in horror as the sun’s rays slowly start show me more. My farms, the grasslands, the town streets, all of it soaked in blood. The blood of my army. The enemy attacking us, there armor shining a very dark blue, look like the ocean it’s self is attacking us. I watch volleys of arrows come falling down on my men. They drop dead. I stand as the winds start to pick up; the scent of blood fills my lungs, as my cape bellows in the wind. The rage starts to build up in me.
“Why was I now awoken?”
“It only now started.”
“Where’s King Sarwar?”
“In the war room with all the generals, I was to take you to meet them.”
“Why is the shield down? How are the arrows blowing past it?”
“They broke the spell…”
“WHAT! HOW!”
“I don’t know… Let’s go meet Sarwar.”
“Yes…” I utter theses word too her as I hear a soft wind coming. But it doesn’t sound like wind; no it’s too rapid this time. It’s too fast, as if faster than the wind that my cape is moving too. Before I see what it is she pushes me aside. I lose my balance and fall as a small array of arrows rockets past where I was. It happens. One arrow loges itself in to her right shoulder, my eyes widen at the site.
“No… No… NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” I catch her in my arms and carry her in to the castle. Sarwar comes running out when he hears my scream.
“Ricardo, your wake, we must hurry. Our men are being killed, hurry meet with us… What’s happened to her! Someone get a medic.”
“Sarwar, listen, take my men and hold them off I need to attend to her.”
“Ricardo listen, we need you.”
“DO NOT QUESTION MY ORDER IN MY LANDS.” My left hand is squeezing the hilt to my sword, allowing the stored rage to channel itself in to me. Sarwar notes my grip and understands my worry.
“Sorry, Lord Ricardo, I’ll take care of things until you can return.”
“Thank you, one last thing. When at war I’m known as Lord Knight.”
“Understood, I’ll see you Soon Lord Knight."
Sarwar takes the generals and heads off in the war room leaving Ricardo alone with his heart.
“Listen, let me help you my love. Let me do it.”
“No my Lord, I cannot allow you too. If I do so you’ll lose it again.”
“If you don’t I’ll lose you.”
“I’m no worth your rampage. Nothing is.”
“No… I can’t lose you; if I do all of this is meaningless.”
“My Knight, I can’t.”
“I’m sorry Alessandra. I must. Forgive me.” I run my hand along the chain around her neck. I toy the gem on it and warp my fingers around it. With a quick snap it comes off.
“RICARDO NOOOOO!!!!”
It floats out of my hand and I pull my sword out of my scabbard. Only enough to allow the empty socket to be seen, the gem settles in to the opening and it happens. The seal breaks. My body floats up as black lightning starts to lick my skin. I throw my head back as I feel it return, my power. I land and quickly place my hands on the arrow in her shoulder. It evaporates of existence and slowly an angelic fluid drips from my fingers in to the wound. The fluid looks as if it’s in this world but at the same time not. Quickly the wound seals and I carry her to the medical area where she is to rest.
“Ricardo, why, don’t you love me? Why would you seal way your emotions for that power? You know you can’t have both.”
“I do love you that is why.”
“But your emotions there gone, and this time Richard isn’t here to return the seal.”
“I know… but this time, this time it wasn’t my emotions locked away.”
“What was?”
“My… my Immortality.”
“No, why was that?”
“I’m not sure. But it’s a good thing.”
“It is. We can finally…” She drifts to sleep.
I head out in to the balcony, and I see her blood on the floor. I wait looking out to the landsand I see Sarwar coming to see me, his horse flying at speeds that could kill it. I stand waiting. I watch arrows start soaring at me. “Not again.” I wave my hand up and a tuff it of wind blows the arrows harmlessly to the ground. Sarwar jumps up off of his horse and stands next to me panting for his breath.
“You broke the seal!” All I do I nod. He scans my face, noting my hidden fear. He hands me the plans that he’s come up with. I read over them then return them to him.
“That seems like it will work. Where do we come in?”
“The plans keep us out of the fighting; keep our hands clean so as to give the people hope.”
“You know I’ll get involved. That’s why at war I’m Lord Knight, and when not I’m Lord Ricardo.”
“It’s best you don’t fight.”
“Where going to fight.”
“I know that look, no use arguing, when, where, how?”
“Tonight, me and you are going to head off in to the lands allow.”
“Why allow?”
“You never sealed your power correct?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
“Then you’re used to casting shields?”
“Yes, again correct.”
“Then shield the lands before we leave.”
“I understand, I had planned to do that. Why bring it up?”
“Because I’m not used to my power and it’s meant of destruction whilst yours is creation.”
“I know, what does that have to do with anything?”
“I’m rusty, so be ready to ward off any stay shots… ok?”
“Oh… Try not to kill anyone innocent by mistake.”
“Yea… That’s your job.”
We both walk in to the castle. Getting perpared for the night to come.
