Top 5 Best Indie Games of 2018

The best indie games of this year.

By Grayshadow, Posted 17 Dec 2018

2018 is almost over and despite the triple-a industry releasing some amazing titles such as God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man lets not forget about the little guys. The indie developers of the gaming industry have provided titles that have surpassed some of the triple-a industries best. Here are the top 5 best indie games of 2018.

Sinner,Sacrifice for Redemption 2,NoobFeed,

5. Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption

While many compare any dark fantasy tale to Dark Souls Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption takes the genre and establishes its own foothold into it. With a little story, the player is pushed into a gauntlet and takes down 7 deadly bosses while getting weaker with each fight. It's a tough and relentless title that may resemble FromSoftware's masterpiece but the imaginative bosses allow Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption to establish itself on its own merits.

Celeste,NoobFeed,

4. Celeste

Celeste gives you basic movements and then forces you through a series of exciting platforming trials. Instead of granting you new and inventive abilities, the developers remain true to the basic jumping and dashing system while using creative hurdles that test your problem-solving skills, reflexes, and mettle. Celeste's core story is short but unlocking everything in this game will take time and talent.

Guacamelee! 2,NoobFeed,Drinkbox Studios,

3. Guacamelee! 2

Coming off the success of  Guacamelee! Drinkbox Studios decided to double-down on its sequel Guacamelee! 2. Taking the same formula as the original players traverse the beautifully decorated world full of supernatural aspects based on Mexican lore. It may borrow a lot of elements from the first title but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Donut County,NoobFeed,

2. Donut County

Donut County doesn't have you saving the world or attempting to stop a great evil, instead, it's a charming puzzle title. You're charged with sucking everything into a sinkhole that grows bigger the more you consume. You can only consume stuff that is smaller than the hole, forcing you to move up the food chain as you start small and consume bigger objects over the course of the game. It's fun, simple, and will have you thinking about what happens to everything that goes down that hole?

Dead Cells,NoobFeed,Motion Twin,

1. Dead Cells

Despite the awful connection to the former IGN plagiarist Dead Cells is not only one of the best rogue-like games in the genre but one of the best games this year. Started off as an early access title Motion Twin slowly added new elements and levels to the game until its final release, which blew the minds of many gamers since rarely due early access titles ever get the commitment seen by Motion Twin.

The intense difficulty, charming atmosphere, solid controls, and incredible boss fights had fans clamoring for another run. Death was frequent but instead of being annoyed by this Dead Cells encouraged players to keep trying. When you create an experience where your players are more encouraged to try again than get frustrated when killed you know you have done something marvelous.
