It seems that the latest update for Sons of the Forest, Patch 06 has added some much-needed tweaks and adjustments to the indie horror survival game, which is a sequel to 2018's The Forest. As you can expect, the game takes place in a densely forested area that has many strange and dark secrets hiding in its underbrush, such as tribes of cannibals and mutants.

Aside from the tweaks, the game is also getting a new hard survival mode, this will add a whole new layer of difficulty and creep factor to the already terrifying game.

Sons of the Forest originally released back in February 2023, however, it is still in early-access. The developer of the game, Endlight, has been maintaining Sons of the Forest quite well and has been providing continuous updates for the game. While none of the updates add anything new and revolutionary to the game, as they are mainly just to patch a few bugs and glitches.

These patches also slowly add more content that will be present when the game eventually fully releases, which we currently do not have a specific date on when that will be. However, it would seem with more recent updates, we're starting to get new features being added to the game. According to the game's official Steam page, the new patch, Patch 06 adds a brand-new hard survival mode, as well as custom effigies and even a log sled.

The patch also adds more stability and adds improvements to both water audio and visuals. As for the new hard survival mode, it adds a few tweaks to make the game more challenging such as reducing food spawn in crates, lowering stamina regen in cold weather, and increasing the penalty for consuming raw or rotten food.

If this new patch is anything to go by, it would seem that Endlight is playing around with the idea of turning Sons of the Forest into a brutal survival game, similar to games such as Rust or 7 Days to Die. However, for players that would prefer the game to stay with the original idea of being a traditional horror survival game, Endlight has also made a few tweaks to the helper NPC Kelvin. Your mute companion can now pick up sticks, rocks and even arrows, which is something that players have been wanting to be implemented in the game for quite some time now.

When the game first launched, Sons of the Forest quickly became one of the most celebrated indie releases to ever appear on Steam and the game is certainly living up to its hype. If you are interested in playing Sons of the Forest, or just want to read more about what's been implemented with Patch 06, you can check out the game on Steam.
