In a move that has upset and angered many gamers, Infinity Ward has said that dedicated servers, a staple of the PC platform, will not be supported in the PC version of the hotly-anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Instead, gamers looking to play online multiplayer will have to play through Infinity Ward's IWNet server system. Using the IWNet system would likely also squash any hopes for mods and custom maps.
This news comes as a shock to PC users already angry about the decision to charge $60 for the title, $10 more than the traditional PC game.
The news sent shockwaves through the gaming community, with many calling for a boycott of the game and of Activision as a whole. A petition has been started in response, with hopes of getting Infinity Ward's attention focused on this issue , which many PC gamers see as critical. As of this writing the petition has over 80,000 signatures.

PS3 version my friends, PS3 version... Oh and I just signed the petition as well, signatures areclosing fast on 87k at the moment.
It's a sad day for all the PC gamers around the world. PC's aren't consoles but they do make lots of gamers happy. Let's wait for what the petition brings: Good or bad news.
I don't understand this :S There will be plenty of free (private) servers anyway.
@ Sleven: Any non-official server for any game is illegal. Because those servers are usually designed and installed in a way to receive patched/cracked versions of the games.
A dedicated server is a very expensive one to provide. But its cost's nothing considering the amount of sales MW2 will have after release. Maybe they have other reasons behind this additional cost.
This is really a total letdown for PC gamers. Well, hopefully they can come to an understanding.
This isn't fair for the PC gamers. I'm signing in that petition.
