Some say that popular PlayStation games like Spider-Man and God of War could be coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. This has made a lot of people wonder: Are PlayStation-only games no longer fun? Not really, though.
A lot of people have the wrong idea about what Sony is doing here and have overreacted or thought the wrong thing. People may think that Spider-Man and God of War will also be ported to Xbox now that Helldivers is out, but there is a catch. What we know and what you can expect are shown below.
Some people may be surprised that Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox, but people who work in the business know this to be true. As Xbox fans have watched as PlayStation's newest co-op hit became a huge hit, this is a win for them. Let's be very clear, though, about what this means. Sony isn't giving everything away. It has hired out the food area.
Live-service games like Helldivers 2 depend on how many people play them. More players? More small deals. Get more involved. More cash flow. Sony's leaders have already made it clear: these kinds of games need to be playable on more than one device in order to do well. When your business is on the line, there's no room for nostalgia.
But don't think that this is a sign of weakness. Death Stranding 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, and God of War are all big, action-packed hits that aren't going anywhere. These games are the crown jewels of Sony. They're not going to be on Xbox, and they're not going to be out on PC right away either. Sony really does know what it's doing.
Microsoft tries to catch a lot of people, but Sony makes it hard to get in by putting up a silk rope outside a private movie theater. Those movie adventures on the first day? That's where PlayStation lives. Yes, the PC crowd might get in at some point, but maybe not for another year or two. But by then, the excitement has died down, there are no longer any secrets to keep, and the magic of playing it first is gone. Gone.
So yes, Xbox users, have fun with Helldivers 2. But don't think that the PlayStation heart will move. Sony's vault still holds the real high-end adventures, and it won't be opening anytime soon.
