Pokemon Sword and Shield Won’t Have HMs and Will Feature Autosave
Autosave coming to Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield is about 1 month away and Game Informer was able to get some exclusive information about the game. Confirming both autosaves and the removal of HMs.

The HMs removal has been popular since Pokemon Sun and Moon, where Ride Pokemon took over the responsibility. Allowing players to select these Pokemon to perform environmental actions instead of having to waste an attack slot for these attacks.
Planning director Kazumasa Iwao explained the decision by stating, “We didn’t have them in Sun and Moon, and this time around, we didn’t feel it really matched the concept, especially with the Wild Area and wanting to have this higher degree of freedom. The player can kind of choose how they want to engage with the gameplay. Having the more HM-based elements, we didn’t feel it really matched the game, so this time around they’re not in it.”
Autosaves will be optional. Players can save manually if they wish and turn off autosaves. For those hunting for shiny rare Pokemon, this will probably be ideal.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are set to launch on Nintendo Switch next month on November 15.
