inFamous: First Light does have some spark, but lackluster missions ensure that this light remains dim

inFamous: First Light stars the neon powered speedster Abigail Walker, also known as Fetch. Throughout the four hour campaign players will complete mundane tasks, fight using neon powers and gain a better understanding about Fetch's plagued past. The main campaign gave us a taste of Fetch's identity, but it's in First Light that we get a better understanding of the troubled teen.
Unlike Delsin, Fetch can only use neon powers. As seen in the main campaign, you'll be able to run at super speed which makes traveling throughout Seattle a breeze. It's unfortunate that Sucker Punch didn't add more variety to Fetch's arsenal that expanded on the Delsin’s neon abilites. Swirly pink clouds are scattered throughout the environment that give Fetch a temporary speed boost, new neon homing missiles make combat easier and a new singularity attack and melee finishers are entertaining to watch. Eventually all these new abilities will blend together making players feel as if they're controlling a reskinned Delsin instead of a completely new character.
The missions in First Light repeat the same pattern. You'll do the same mundane tasks to unlock new powers and upgrades. These include collecting glowing orbs, sniping people on rooftops and preventing drive-by shootings. It won't take you long to exhaust all the secondary activities, and playing through a second time becomes less enticing as the iconic morality system is absent here.
The story is the highlight of First Light. Taking place before the events of Second Son, the DLC darts between the past and present as Brooke Augustine, director of DUP and the main antagonist of the Delsin campaign, forces Fetch to recall emotional memories of her attempt to save her brother. Outside from her required therapy session, Augustine forces Fetch into training missions. These challenging maps offer the most intense combat situations in the entire DLC.
These challenges offer a decent amount of training to hone your skills, compete on leaderboards for high scores and unlock trophies. Unlike the open world where you can run if things become too overwhelming, these arenas lock you into combat, forcing you to fight or die. These arenas are also open to Delsin if you hate being limited to one power.
inFamous: First Light offers an interesting backstory of Fetch, giving us a better understanding of her plight before she met Delsin. The excellent combat and colorful powers make combat and travel as enjoyable as Second Son's main campaign, but the lack of power variety is more of a handicap after experiencing them all as Delsin. First Light does have some spark, but lackluster missions ensure that this light remains dim.
