Today at PAX South I was able to talk, for a few minutes, and Insomniac’s new game Song of the Deep. This brand new game from the creators of Spyro the Dragon, Rachet and Clank, Resistance and Sunset Overdrive quickly grabbed the attention of many.

First off Song of the Deep will be available for PC, Xbox One and PS4 for $14.99 digitally or physical copies from GameStop stores. This Metroidvania-style underwater game attempts to combine story, music and gameplay into one smooth experience.

The story of Song of the Deep follows a young girl named Merryn, as she attempts to locate her missing father using a submarine. While a young girl Merryn was sung by her father many lullabies, she dismissed them as fairy tales but during the course of her adventure will find our these tales are more than legends.

You’ll travel through sunk cities and solve puzzles, all while upgrading your ship and existing abilities suing Tyne. This mysterious substance has powerful properties that give Merryn the ability to continue on her journey.

Music will play a massive role in Song of the Deep. Attempting to compliment the oceanic environment with complementary music. Brian Hastings explained to me that a stand-alone release of the soundtrack is possible but currently not confirmed. Judging from the gameplay footage it would be a shame not to release for the public to enjoy.

Song of the Deep will release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
