After Un-Releasing Crucible Amazon Has Delayed New World

New World will launch this spring 2021

Amazon's first huge game to compete with games like Destiny 2, Overwatch, and Valorant called Crucible was a disaster. Not only did it launch without any real marketing but those who did play the game noted issues with the game modes, character balance, and many other problems. It was such a failure that Amazon un-released the game to work on the title. Now, Amazon has delayed their next big project New World to 2021 most likely to avoid a similar issue.

According to the blog post from studio director Rich Lawrence:

When we examined the feedback we received over the last several months from our Alpha audience, we saw that players like the game, and they would like to see even more of it. In particular, we want to ensure that the most dedicated players have plenty of middle and endgame experiences as they venture through Aeternum. We want our players to feel completely immersed in the game, and know that our studio stands for quality and lasting gameplay you can trust — and that means added time to get things where we want them before we fully release.

As a result, we will be changing our launch date - and correspondingly, our final beta test - to spring 2021. We don't make the decision lightly, and we have urgency about getting the game to you as quickly as possible at the best quality -- with some additions that will make the experience even better.

This is for the best as more players are getting tired of the live service method of releasing games. With the titles coming out in unfinished states and developers attempting to resolve the issue over months or years of development. Some games have found success in this, the most notorious being No Man Sky and Final Fantasy XIV. Other titles include For Honor, Rainbow Six Siege, and you can make the argument for Fallout 76 but that game is still full of issues.

Either way, the live service way of releasing games is bettering more notorious and hated. As players spend full price or invest time into a game that is simply not ready for public release. The approach Amazon is taking for New Worlds is the best option.
