MPR Art Hallucinations Launches a Kickstarter for The Grandfather

The Grandfather Kickstarter isn't potato salad, it's an indie game.

When we interviewed Michael Patrick Rogers of MPR Art Hallucinations back in April, it was clear that the indie game developer was eccentric, imaginative and most of all passionate about making creative, meaningful games. What more, with his recently launched Kickstarter campaign, we've learned Rogers really doesn't like potato salad.

As artists, we all know that fundraising is NO JOKE and shouldn't be reduced to raising money to make POTATO SALAD, which makes a mockery of crowd funding, the hard working artist trying to fund their art, and the people who support crowd funding campaigns.

This definitely isn't potato salad.

As players saw with The Lady, making games based on his own personal experiences and insights is what Rogers is all about, and he will stay true to his philosophy with MPR Art Hallucinations' next game, The Grandfather.

An adventure game, "The Grandfather is a story about an old man who is tormented by the coldness of his wife." It features work from artist SaintYak and in his fashion, will be styled similar to that of a comic book. Furthermore, the indie title will be narrated by New Orleans actress Laura Flannery in the tradition of a children's storybook - one from your nightmares - and includes an equally creepy soundtrack by Rogers himself.

If you haven't figured out by now, this is an indie game, and there's no mayo involved.

Rogers' plan is to fund The Grandfather through multiple, small installments, with the current Kickstarter goal set at a meager $500 "because it does not cost $100,000 to make a good game. There are no fancy rewards, just the game and the soundtrack." There are three pledge options, with $8 getting backers a copy of the game and a digital download of the soundtrack. Of course, as is with the crowdfunding site, participants do have the option to pledge more than what is featured.

The Grandfather's funding period ends on August 9, with an estimated PC release date of December 2015. If potato salad's really not your thing either, a small pledge can help out an indie developer and get you a unique game that won't spoil because "unlike POTATO SALAD, which has an expiration date, art is timeless."
