Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. Whether with their fantasy settings, the ability to climb mountains, or just with the overall same charm as Capcom’s iconic RPG. Here's a list of games that will hopefully scratch that Dragon's Dogma itch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

There's no denying the similarities between Dragon's Dogma and CD Projekt RED’s masterpiece. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is based on the works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowwski; the world crafted by CDPR is rich and vibrant, and teamed with monsters. Much like in Dragon's Dogma, Geralt will need to track down and slay these monsters, sadly, without the help of pawns. Both games also feature phenomenal stories of being an outsider while still helping those who would rather see you dead.

Monster Hunter World

If you enjoy the giant monster fighting in Dragon's Dogma, then you would probably enjoy Monster Hunter World. One of the biggest inspirations behind Dragon's Dogma was Capcom's Monster Hunter games, and it's easy to see why. Both games require you to have a level of mastery and understanding over the giant monsters you encounter. Another similar aspect that both games share is the need to grind for parts to upgrade certain equipment as well exploiting certain monsters' weaknesses. While Monster Hunter World doesn't feature monsters from classical mythology, what monsters there are certainly as fantastical.

Shadow of The Colossus

If Monster Hunter World isn't your cup of tea and you really want a game that lets you climb the giant beasties, then look no further than Shadow of The Colossus. Much like in Dragon's Dogma, you will need to track down the titular colossi and figure out their weak points, and also, like in Dragon's Dogma, many of the colossi are far bigger than you. If that wasn't enough to sell you, then it should be noted that both game's feature stories with much deeper plots that are filled with unexpected twists… But we'll leave it at that.

Elden Ring

Giant enemies? Check. Stamina management? Check. Interesting classes? Check. AI NPCs to help you in combat? Check. Elden Ring is a world rich with lore and indirect storytelling, with enemies that take inspiration from classic myths and legends. It's safe to say Elden Ring is essentially a Dragon's Dogma game if you wanted a vastly more difficult challenge. While Elden Ring doesn't have the snappy and fast paced combat, the game encourages player experimentation and offers a huge variety in playstyles, something Dragon's Dogma was praised for. Also, there are dragons.

Dragon's Dogma

If you're excited about Dragon's Dogma II, then it would only make sense to play the first one. While it's not necessary for story reasons, as Dragon's Dogma II is set in an alternate timeline of the first Dragon's Dogma game, it will let you get used to the mechanics and features that made the series a gem amongst other RPGs. Also, there's no harm in replaying the first one and then jumping straight into the sequel when Dragon's Dogma II releases on 22 March 2024.

We're as excited as ever to see what Hideki Itsuno has in store for us in Dragon's Dogma II. While we still need to wait a while, at least we'll have some games to play while we wait
