5 Reasons Sony Should Release a Classic PlayStation System

After the success of the NES and SNES classic Sony should make their own Classic PlayStation

by Grayshadow on  Jul 31, 2017

One of the most demanded items of last year was the NES Classic. A system built with 30 built-in games that immediately sold out everywhere. Demand was so high that gamers waited in lines early in the morning to get one of these systems and now Nintendo is releasing the SNES Classic which will follow the same issues. Especially since it comes with the unreleased game Star Fox 2. Following this demand for classic systems Sony should consider releasing their own. Here are 5 reasons Sony should release their own PlayStation Classic.

5. Robust Library of Games

The PlayStation console has some of the best games of its era. As Sony's first system it went head to head with veteran contenders such as Nintendo and SEGA and came out on top. This because of an excellent selection of games like Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Crash Bandicoot.

4. It Will Print Money

The NES Classic's demand was insane, with Nintendo unable to keep up with demand and scalpers reselling the system for insane prices, something that will repeat with the SNES Classic. I'm not to advocate for this type of behavior but it shows that there's a demand for classic consoles. It's doubtful if Sony decides to release their own that the system won't gain the same popularity. Especially considering that the PlayStation 4 sold over 50 million consoles, that's a lot of people who are Sony fans.

3. A Great Collector's Item

Let's face it, most of us purchased the NES classic because it looked awesome. The games on the system could be purchased easily from Nintendo's eShop but the NES Classic was an excellent collector's item. The desire to purchase collectable gaming items are high and a PlayStation Classic would be an excellent collectable for any gamer.

2. Revival of Dead Franchises

Over time certain franchises are forgotten, either through time or changes in gaming. As we've seen with the release of Crash N.Sane Trilogy there's still a community of gamers who want older titles to return. With the PlayStation, Classic Sony could bring back franchises that were part of the PlayStation library and what gamers would like to see return. Franchises such as Spyro the Dragon, Parasite Eve, and PaRappa the Rapper.

1. PlayStation Popularity

Like I mentioned before, a lot of people own PlayStation 4 consoles. The system is popular and Sony should capitalize on that frame. Even those who've never owned a PlayStation system would be enticed to get one if they enjoyed owning a PlayStation 4. Not to mention those who did own one.
