The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a huge win for gamers, not just because of its upgraded hardware but because of the incredible third-party support it's attracting right from launch. Big-name titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction are already lined up, signaling a major shift in how major publishers view Nintendo's new system. But one of the most exciting announcements so far? Square Enix is bringing the Final Fantasy VII Remake series to Switch 2, and they're going all in this time.

Square Enix had a decent presence on the original Switch. They released a number of quality titles, including ports and some smaller projects. But when it came to their biggest, most graphically ambitious games, Switch owners were often left out. That's all about to change with Switch 2.

Moreover, Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. That alone would have been enough to turn heads. But the story doesn't end there.

In a recent "Developer Creator Series" video published by Nintendo, part of a new behind-the-scenes series featuring major developers, the producer of the Final Fantasy VII Remake made it clear that it's not just Intergrade that's coming over. The entire Final Fantasy VII Remake series is headed to Switch 2.

Yes, you read that right. Square Enix is planning to bring the full remake experience to Nintendo's next-gen console, not just one installment.

The developer explained that he has a personal connection to Nintendo platforms; his first experience with games was on the NES. That nostalgia, combined with the Switch 2's improved specs, played a major role in the decision to bring Final Fantasy VII Remake to the platform.

When he first got a look at the Switch 2's specs, he believed it would finally be strong enough to run high-end games like Final Fantasy VII Remake. Not only that, but he praised how easy it is to develop the system. Because of the team's experience designing for the original Switch, the transition to the Switch 2 has been smooth. Also, the producer specifically mentioned the increased memory and ease of porting games over as major positives.

Another standout feature is Game Chat. The producer highlighted the new Game Chat function as something that could change how players connect and experience games together. He believes it will be a hit with families and friend groups who want to share the adventure in real-time, including Final Fantasy VII Remake.

So far, only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is officially confirmed. Still, industry insider "Nate the Hate" has also reported that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is expected to arrive on Switch 2 sometime in 2026. That would continue the story and set the stage for the final installment of the trilogy to launch day-and-date with other platforms, including the PlayStation 5, possibly even simultaneously.

That kind of parity across platforms would have been unthinkable for a Nintendo system just a few years ago. But Square Enix seems to believe in the capabilities of Switch 2, and based on what we've heard, there is no reason not to.

There's another potential surprise in store: Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix's massive online multiplayer RPG, could also be heading to Switch 2. The game is already available on PlayStation and Xbox, and the developer has expressed interest multiple times in bringing it to more platforms. With the Switch 2 offering better online support and more power under the hood, this could finally become a reality.

Switch fans have long wanted access to more major Final Fantasy titles, and the stars may finally be aligning.

For the past several years, Nintendo players have enjoyed classic Final Fantasy games on the Switch, along with spin-offs and remasters. Those were great additions, but they didn't represent the cutting edge of what the franchise had to offer. That's changing now.

Bringing the Final Fantasy VII Remake series to Switch 2 is more than just a nice bonus. It's a statement. It shows that Square Enix sees Nintendo's next console as a real home for its biggest games. And it suggests that the two companies are looking to build a much closer relationship moving forward.

The producer of the remake series made that clear in the developer video, saying he has "high hopes" for a strong partnership between Square Enix and Nintendo, especially when it comes to Final Fantasy. That kind of sentiment doesn't just come out of nowhere. It sounds like this is only the beginning.

If you're a Nintendo fan, this is a massive win. For too long, some of the most visually stunning and narrative-driven games were locked away on other platforms. The Switch had incredible titles, of course, but it couldn't quite compete when it came to high-end third-party releases. The Switch 2 is changing that.

Getting the full Final Fantasy VII Remake series is just the start. With Rebirth likely on the way and the possibility of Final Fantasy XIV joining the lineup, Switch 2 could become a real home for Square Enix's flagship franchises.

The message is clear: Square Enix believes in the Switch 2 and is ready to support it strongly from the very beginning.

As more creators step forward in Nintendo's Developer Creator Series, we're bound to learn even more about what's in store for the Switch 2. But this announcement alone is enough to get fans buzzing. One of the most beloved and iconic JRPGs of all time is getting a second life, and Nintendo players finally get to experience it the way it was meant to be played.

Big Final Fantasy. Big graphics. Big storytelling. And now, finally, on a big Nintendo console that can handle it. Let the new era begin.
