AMD Radeon Architecture and GPU Prices Face Major Changes
AMD faces TPM 2.0 vulnerabilities as future Radeon GPU designs evolve and graphics card prices begin rising again.

Modern PC security, future GPU architecture, and graphics card pricing are all changing at once. AMD has confirmed vulnerabilities in TPM 2.0 reference code, and Intel systems are affected as well. At the same time, new information points toward changes in how future Radeon GPUs could be designed, while graphics card prices are beginning to move upward again.
AMD has confirmed security vulnerabilities connected to TPM 2.0 reference code. TPM became much more important after Microsoft made it a major requirement for Windows 11. Its job is basically to protect important security information inside a computer. That can include encrypted data, security keys, and other trusted system information.

AMD Confirms TPM 2.0 Security Vulnerabilities
Researchers discovered vulnerabilities in TPM-related code that could potentially expose sensitive information under certain conditions. AMD has now confirmed that its firmware TPM implementation is affected across many processors. That includes multiple generations of Ryzen desktop CPUs, Ryzen mobile chips, Threadripper processors, and some server products.
Intel has also confirmed that many of its own platforms are affected. That means many PCs could be affected. There is some good news, though. Mitigations are already available for many affected systems, but you may need a BIOS or firmware update to get them.
If your BIOS has not been updated in months or even years, now is a good time to check. Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website, find your exact motherboard model, and compare your current BIOS version with the newest available version. Laptop and pre-built users should check their system manufacturer's support page instead.
Future Radeon GPUs Could Change Cache Design
While AMD fixes security problems on current hardware, clues also suggest what the company may be planning next. Future Radeon GPUs could look different from current designs. For years, one of AMD's GPU technologies has been Infinity Cache. The basic idea is simple. Instead of constantly going all the way out to the graphics memory, the GPU can keep frequently used data closer to the chip.
That can improve efficiency and help reduce memory bandwidth pressure. Now, AMD appears to be changing that strategy. Newer AMD architectures are moving toward much larger shared L2 cache designs, and that could be an important change. A bigger, more efficient L2 cache can potentially reduce latency, cut unnecessary memory access, and improve power efficiency.
AMD is already using this kind of design in newer compute-focused GPUs. Leaks suggest similar technology could eventually appear inside future gaming GPUs as well, and this fits with AMD's broader plan. The company has been moving toward bringing its gaming and compute GPU technologies closer together.
Technology developed for AI and data center GPUs could eventually benefit Radeon gaming cards, too. Instead of maintaining completely separate architectures, AMD could build a more unified design and then scale it across products, including gaming, AI, workstations, and servers, with more of the same underlying technology.

GPU Prices Start Moving Up Again
If AMD can pull this off, future Radeon GPUs could become more competitive in traditional gaming performance, efficiency, AI workloads, and professional applications. That could make the next generation of AMD graphics cards an important launch for the company.
PC gamers face another problem. Buying a GPU is getting more expensive again. Graphics card prices are showing signs of increasing across several markets, and some popular models are already selling noticeably above the prices buyers originally expected. That is particularly bad news for mid-range GPUs because this is where most gamers shop.
A $1,500 graphics card is expensive. Most people were never going to buy it anyway. But when a $400 or $500 graphics card suddenly becomes much more expensive, it affects many more PC gamers. Several factors can drive this. Memory costs, manufacturing costs, supply problems, distributors, board partners, regional demand, and retailer markups can all play a role.
GPU pricing also has an important nuance.
These costs eventually reach the customer. Graphics card prices do not react instantly. A graphics card arriving in stores today may have been built using components purchased weeks or even months ago. So, even if some component prices are getting better right now, retailers may still be receiving more expensive inventory.
Falling prices work the same way. There is no reason to panic-buy a graphics card. But if you already plan to upgrade and find the exact GPU you want at a generally good price, waiting for a massive price drop could be risky because the market remains unpredictable.
