5 Ways Destiny 2 Failed Gamers
Destiny 2 has taken a sharp decline since its launch
by Grayshadow on May 08, 2018
When it launched Destiny 2 had so much promise. The game improved on a lot of the issues of the first game but then took a steady downward thrust. From a studio that brought Halo, this was not only shocking but heartbreaking as Destiny 2 gamers felt like the studio had betrayed them. Here are 5 ways Bungie failed Destiny 2 players.
5. Lack of End-Game Content
After beating Destiny 2 it becomes quickly apparent that there isn't much to do. Grinding for more reputation as you learned that consumable shaders were finite and lack of anything substantial caused gamers a lot of vexation in the early days. Things have improved since then but the initial launch of Destiny 2 was left many wanting more and getting nothing.
4. Heavy Use of Microtransactions
Loot boxes have been the target by gamers and government officials after the release of the infamous Star Wars Battlefront 2. Bungie and Activision's version of the system was the nefarious Eververse which saw more added content than the Curse of Osiris expansion and the Dawning event. The absurd system made many annoyed as more effort was being put on microtransactions instead of gameplay and progression.
Bungie and Activision have taken some effort in response to the criticism and introduced a new type of loot box called Prismatic Matrix. You can earn this by playing or paying, adding a thing Destiny 2 fans are livid about.
3. Paywalling Content
When the Curse of Osiris expansion launched it was underwhelming. However, what got a lot of backlashes was that the expansion locked players out of heroic strikes and other vanilla content unless they purchased the DLC at its launch. Bungie and Activision have resolved this issue but the damage was already done.
2. Communication
One of the biggest complaint gamers have been vocal about is the lack of communication between the Destiny 2 community and Bungie. On multiple occasions, Bungie and Activision were caught lying to their community on subjects such as experience being earned, "Go Fast" update and TTK frustrations. This cycle has caused many players to lose faith in Bungie and the studio will need to earn the trust of their fans back.
1. Repeating the Same Mistakes
There's a common pattern many have picked up on since the launch of Destiny 2. Problem surfaces, community backlash, followed by Bungie issuing a statement promising to do better in the future. This has become a set model over the course of months since the launch of Destiny 2 and because of it many fans who've grown up with Bungie titles and love the studio's past work are losing faith and trust the company who brought us some of the best games ever made.
