SAROS Might Launch On PS6, Sony's Next Big Graphical Benchmark

Housemarque's sci-fi roguelike may serve as the PlayStation 6's graphical showcase, fueling speculation around a 2027 console debut.

Sony may be quietly getting ready for its next-generation console, and one game, SAROS, a sci-fi roguelike made by Housemarque (the studio that made Returnal, which is only available on PS5), is causing a lot of talk. SAROS was officially announced at Sony's State of Play event in February. It debuted with a haunting cinematic trailer and promises a deeply atmospheric experience built on the same roguelike core that made Returnal such a big hit.

SAROS takes place on the mysterious space colony Carosa and adds a gameplay loop where each death changes the world. The official description says that players can expect to gradually improve and change their loadout over runs, which will allow them to get a better return each time. The story is built around a strange eclipse that fills the setting and gives it an eerie, tense feel that is typical of Housemarque's stories.

Even though SAROS is set to be released exclusively for PlayStation in 2026, some gaming experts think it might be released around the same time as the PlayStation 6. Several new reports say that Sony's next console could be released as early as 2027. If that happens, SAROS could be the first game people play, just like Returnal was for the PlayStation 5.

According to rumors about the PlayStation 6's hardware, it will be much faster than previous models. It will have 24GB of RAM, support for AMD's upcoming FSR4 upscaling technology, and the ability to use machine learning. With all of these features, SAROS could make the graphics and controls look and feel much better than they do on the PS5. With its advanced rendering and AI-enhanced game systems, the game could be a key early indicator of what the new console can do.

Returnal showed off the PS5's lightning-fast SSD and immersive 3D audio, which helped shape the early PS5 experience. If Housemarque does the same thing again, SAROS might do the same thing for the PlayStation 6, but this time on a bigger and more technically difficult scale.

Of course, Sony hasn't said when the PlayStation 6 will be released or given any specifics about its technical specs. However, as more leaks and insider reports come out, SAROS is seen as a possible leader who could set the tone for the next generation.

Some fans say 2027 is too soon for another hardware change, while others can't wait to see what the next PlayStation offers. SAROS looks like it will be one of Sony's most important exclusives in years, whether it comes out at the same time as the PS6 or a little before.

The question still stands: Is this the start of the PS6 era? The answer will only become clear after more time and announcements. Right now, everyone is looking forward to seeing what SAROS and Sony do next.
