AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT vs. RTX 5070 Ti: Performance Comparison at 1440p and 4K

Detailed performance analysis highlights differences in FPS, ray tracing, and upscaling capabilities between RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 Ti.

AMD came out with the RX 9070 XT few months ago, and it's been a huge hit. Reports say that AMD has already sent out 200,000 RX 9070 series GPUs, and their market share is quickly growing.

While the accuracy of those claims is unclear, sources indicate that AMD has already sold more 9070 series GPUs than Nvidia has sold across the entire GeForce 50 series lineup.

Despite Nvidia having a 2-month head start, its poor availability is allowing AMD to take a significant share of the market, which should ultimately benefit AMD more than Nvidia in the long term.

Why the RTX 5070 Ti vs the RX 9070 XT?

While it's beneficial to see competition in the GPU market, the primary concern is the value it offers. We wanted to look deeper into who is delivering the better product at the right price point. While the 9070 XT is technically priced closer to the RTX 5070, the 5070 is not a recommended card, making the RTX 5070 Ti a more relevant comparison.

For this head-to-head comparison, we benchmarked both GPUs across 55 games at 1440p and 4 K resolutions. We'll highlight results from 20 key titles before looking at the full aggregated data.

Test System and Games

We tested 55 games at both 1440p and 4K to get a comprehensive performance overview. From well-established competitive titles like Counter-Strike 2 and Rocket League to demanding AAA games like Black Myth Wukong and Horizon Forbidden West, the goal was to capture real-world gaming scenarios that matter.

Individual Game Performance

Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced – The 9070 XT performed poorly, coming in 29% slower at 1440p and 24% slower at 4K compared to the 5070 Ti.

Assetto Corsa Competizione – Weak results for AMD, 35% slower at 1440p and 37% slower at 4K.

Counter-Strike 2 – More competitive here, just 10% slower at 1440p and 13% slower at 4K.

Rocket League – Surprisingly, the 9070 XT was 41% faster at 1440p and 36% faster at 4K.

Hunt Showdown 1896 – Again problematic for AMD, 35% slower at 1440p and 39% slower at 4K.

Marvel Rivals – Very competitive, just 7% slower at 1440p and 11% slower at 4K.

Black Myth Wukong – Solid results with only a 6% gap at 1440p and 10% at 4K.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – A mixed bag, 13% slower at 1440p but only 8% behind at 4K.

The Riftbreaker – Historically poor for Radeon, 20% slower at 1440p and 24% slower at 4K.

F1 24 – Excellent results with ray tracing enabled, both GPUs performing nearly identically at 1440p and 4K.

War Thunder – Still weaker, 18% slower at 1440p and 13% slower at 4K.

Monster Hunter Wilds – Slight edge for AMD at 1440p with a 6% lead, nearly identical at 4K.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 – 10% faster at 1440p, but tied at 4K.

Horizon Forbidden West – Very strong, 10% faster at 1440p and 11% at 4K.

Total War: Warhammer III – Clear win for AMD, 11% faster at 1440p and 12% at 4K.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – Slower overall, 15% behind at 1440p and 21% slower at 4K.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – A big win, 17% faster at 1440p and 36% faster at 4K.

Gears 5 – Disappointing, 32% slower at 1440p and 33% slower at 4K.

Rainbow Six Siege – Strong results, only 7% slower at 1440p and 6% slower at 4K.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Excellent performance, 22% faster at 1440p and 19% faster at 4K.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl – Close results, just 9% slower at 1440p and 5% slower at 4K.

1440p Average Performance

Across 55 tested titles, the RX 9070 XT ended up 5% slower than the RTX 5070 Ti on average at 1440p. In 65% of the games tested (36 out of 55), the margin was 10% or less in either direction. This shows that for the majority of titles, performance is relatively close.

4K Average Performance

At 4K, the RX 9070 XT was again 5% slower than the 5070 Ti across 55 titles. Some demanding games like GTA V Enhanced, ACC, Hunt Showdown, and Gears 5 weighed heavily against AMD, but the overall difference is still relatively small.

Pricing and Value

At MSRP, the RX 9070 XT is priced at $600 while the RTX 5070 Ti comes in at $750, meaning AMD's GPU should deliver around 15% better value. In real-world retail pricing, the RX 9070 XT typically sells for around $750 and the RTX 5070 Ti for $900, keeping AMD's card roughly 12% better in value.

We don't recommend buying either at inflated prices. Ideally, wait until the stock stabilizes closer to MSRP. If both are available, the RX 9070 XT needs to be at least 15% cheaper to be the clear recommendation.

If the price gap is only 10% or less, the RTX 5070 Ti becomes the stronger option thanks to DLSS 4 support and slightly better ray tracing performance.

FSR 4 vs DLSS 4

One major selling point of the RTX 5070 Ti is DLSS 4, but AMD has made major strides with FSR 4. After testing, we found that FSR 4 sits between DLSS 3 and DLSS 4 in terms of quality, representing a significant leap forward from FSR 3.

While Nvidia still leads in game support and ray tracing, AMD has narrowed the gap considerably. With FSR 4, Radeon GPUs are now much more viable for RT-heavy titles at 1440p with quality upscaling enabled.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 Ti are closely matched. On average, the 9070 XT is just 5% slower, yet it is cheaper, making it a better value if priced 15% lower. Nvidia's card retains advantages in DLSS 4 support, superior ray tracing, and stronger performance in certain titles, such as GTA V Enhanced, ACC, and Gears 5.

On the other hand, AMD excels in games such as Horizon Forbidden West, Warhammer III, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

We recommend focusing on the games you play most. If your library includes titles that heavily favor Nvidia, the RTX 5070 Ti is the smarter choice. However, if pricing and value are more important, and you want competitive performance in most titles, the RX 9070 XT earns a strong recommendation when purchased at a discounted price.
