2017 has some big releases such as Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Destiny 2. Some developers decided to go big with their games, creating entire open worlds for the player to explore. Looking back at 2017 we had a lot of open-world games, but some were better than others. Here are the best open-world games of 2017.

Prey

Despite being limited to the space station of Talos 1 Prey's world is full of areas to explore, resources to loot, and missions to undertake. Players are given free-range of how to tackle the situations in Prey, either with violence, humility, or to simply ignore them. The station may not have the diverse locations found in Grand Theft Auto V or beautiful oceans like in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag but it gives Prey its own distinct identity.

Assassin's Creed Origins

Ubisoft constantly surprises the video game world by providing historical recreations of different periods in history within the Assassin's Creed franchise. Assassin's Creed Origins once again doesn't disappoint, providing a vivid recreation of Ptolemaic Period. You can travel throughout the landscape without having to deal with a single loading screen. The world itself is full of missions to undertake, hidden areas to explore, and challenges to overcome. It's astonishing how the developers took historical data and created a world that we could see and traverse.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games of this generation, creating a phenomenal experience within a beautiful and hostile world. Blending together deserts, mountains, and lush forests into one amazing map the world of Horizon Zero Dawn continues to surprise players well into the final missions. The latest expansion, The Frozen Wilds, complements the map by providing a snowy rich area to explore teeming with new enemies and challenges to overcome. It's still hard to believe this was Guerrilla Games first attempt at an open-world game.

The Legend of Zelda,Breath of the Wild,NoobFeed,Nintendo,

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Right from the start, the vast and open fields of Hyrule feels intimidating. While most of the game is closed off to provide the player with a short tutorial once the game allows you to explore the other areas of the world you'll realize, this place is huge! Each new section of the map provides new trials and items to collect if you want to survive in this harsh landscape. It may look bright and cheerful but the land of Hyrule is a difficult place to survive thanks to Calamity Ganon.
