Borderlands Early Impressions

Games by Nerdboy on  Oct 21, 2009

I'll keep this short sweet and to the point as I'm still not too far into Borderlands.  As of right now (PS3 version) the game is running quite well, the graphics are REALLY great.  Borderlands is a beautiful game even if you're in a wasteland.  However the big thing I want to talk about for this short impression is the gameplay.  Borderlands I have been saying for a while now is what I wanted Fallout 3 to be.  Borderlands gameplay is fun.  Shooting guns feels right, sounds right and looks right.  Each gun feels different and seeing as there are literally 87 bazillion guns I can see where not one gun feels the same or works the same.  Only being a few hours into the game I've encountered sniper rifles that catch enemies on fire as well as shotguns that...well don't necessarily do what you'd expect.

I find the game dashes out little bits of humor in item descriptions and short exchanges of dialogue when buying items that keep the game world feeling like it's alive and well.  The enemies so far have a decent amount of variety from large beetle like creatures called scags to drawf bandits with oversized heads wielding shotguns that, when fired off, will knock them back a few feet allowing for you to get the uperhand.

Boderlands so far is a fun, enjoyable and addicting game.  It's very easy to find yourself saying "just one more mission" and then playing for another 2 hours.  I'll get more up later and talk more in depth about the game as I get farther but for now I'm off to play some more borderlands.  I have yet to try out the coop since I have only one friend with the game and he was watching a movie earlier.  If anyone has the game or plans on getting the game feel free to add me on PSN: Nerd_Boy777 and I'll be happy to try out the multiplayer.
