Sony Online Entertainment has several free-to-play games still in store. Bullet Run is one of these titles and runs a multiplayer first person shooter in vein of Smash TV. This means that players are set in a game show and kill for fun and fame alike.

With excellent level designs that offer a wide selection of tactical approaches and weapons that can be unlocked as scores are tallied, Bullet Run sure sounds like fun. Even if the commentary is lacking, the games are generally action packed, especially Dominion mode with its multiple control points that need to be taken to score. Players are encouraged to draw the audience’s attention with stylish kills, which in turn yield higher weapon tiers, level up characters faster and so on. There’s even a hectic reloading mini-game to access new ammo faster.

As a free game it sounds too good to be true and it partially is. Due to the rapid advancements and in-game transactions, gaps between lesser and more advanced players create large balancing issues, only exacerbated by weak payoffs. Teams with these stronger or paying gamers have a sizably larger chance at victory from the get go and all this momentum only intensifies the error in fair play.

In order to become the game its currently trying to be and unlock its fullest potential, Bullet Run will need to close these wild chasms between advancement and players alike. It’s only fun when the destruction is proportionate towards each other. For a full match rundown, please enjoy this gameplay of me dying a lot, more or less by my own design rather than the game’s fault.
