Catherine

Just last week i picked up the game catherine.  This is my first review of any game ever on any game website so please be easy!

 

Catherine is a japanese puzzle/dating type of game.  The story revolves around 3 main characters.  Vincent, the main character of the game, Katherine Vincents current girlfriend, and Catherine, a 22 year-old um i don't know how to say this, a one night stand.  It's almost a typical japanese anime story.  Well it is.  The main character vincent is at a coffee shop with his love katherine, katherine is looking to get married, vincent on the other hand not so much.  So vincent goes to a bar to hang out with his buds, drink some beers and just hang out.  He decides to stay at the bar getting hammered, where he meets catherine, She seduces him, takes vincent home, and well, they do the dirty deed known as makeing love.  As this is going on a string of murders have been happening where men have been dieing in their sleep.  The cutscenes are very beautiful and look nice.  Even in game scenes are very great looking. 

 

 

 

When i first played the game i actually got addicted right off the bat.  You start off in a nightmare world where you have to escape your bad dream.  To do this you push blocks around to try to find your exit the nightmare world.  You have to move these blocks around, climb up the blocks while avoiding deadly traps.  These traps can ultimately lead to your doom.  when you die in the dream world, you die in the real world too.  Well i shouldn't say traps, more like monsters.  These nightmare creaturs climb the towr of blocks with you.  if they find you, they will kill you.  Then its game over.  I have to warn you ahead of time, this game is wicked hard!  Some of the levels are really easy while others are exremelt difficult.  mainly the early levels.  As you get further the levels seem to get easier.  Sometimes the camera angles of the game get in the way and do more damage than any good.  The controls are really touchy too, sometimes not working on comand.  But despite these little flaws the game is really fun, I found myself dieing a lot but i was so addicted to clibing the pillar of blocks and completeing these nightmare levels.  Warning you will die a lot of times.

 

Now on to the daytime part of the game.  Activities vary from talking to katherine in a coffee shop, or at a local bar hanging with your buds.  most of the gameplay daytime is through a cell phone.  you answer text messages that fill up a good bad meter.  pending on how the meter fills can lead to multiple endings.  So whatever descisions you make while on your phone or talking to others is how the games going to end.  the daytime playing is almost like japanese dateing sims, descisions will affect the overal outcome of the game.

 

catherine is a very unique game, But i reallt don't think its worth the 60$ price tag.  Despite the little flaws of this game I highly recomend you pick up this game.  wether you wait for a price drop, gamefly, or video rental.  The game is good. Go play it!
