Chapter 6:

Cole, Cole Dalflorion, to be correct

She kissed his head and smiled at how peaceful he looked. She walked over to the balcony and laid her hands on to the railing, leaning the smallest bit over them, trying to glance at a small part of the land she used to live in. It’s hard to believe that in only eight years, a fourteen year old boy managed to take over all of Europe. She looks up, trying to find the stars; she looks to back down to see all the touches blowing out one by one. 54th, 53rd. 52nd, 51st, 50th… The last sixty seconds until midnight. She looks back up trying to find them, 39th, 38th, 37th… Her breath slowly lifts in the air rising in to the night sky, 21st, 20th, 19th… She tries to count the last remaining touches. 5th, 4th, 3rd… She starts to get eager waiting for them 2nd…. She quickly stares at the last one, it’s not going out. In confusion she walks to the edge of the balcony, leaning over more trying to see why it’s not going out. The magick connection still flowing in to it, but it won’t do out. She leans even more and tries to blow it out. Lightning strikes the balcony making no sound, sending her falling to the stone paved courtyard… The night grows quiet, the last torch finally goes out, and the stars shine red…

He wakes up to sun in his eyes. With a yawn and a stretch he looks to his left finding it empty. He sits up and notices a rather solidly built man, holding a crossbow, sitting in a chair, roughly nine feet away.

“Good morning Mi Lord, did you sleep well.”

“Who are you?”

“Cole, Cole Dalflorion, to be correct. I was sent to check on you, and I didn’t want to wake you up. I was rather surprised to find that our Lord is so young. I was expecting someone older, I guess you can believe what you hear.”

“Where is she?”

“Who? Alessandra?”

“Yes, where is she?”

“She’s in the medical area, complaining about pains.”

“Is she ok?”

“Yep.”

“Who sent you?”

“Sarwar, to make sure you didn’t panic when you woke up without her.”

“Ah, right, so, Cole is it?”

“Yes Cole Dalflorion, Grand marksmen.”

“Grand, or course you’re a Grand Marksmen. Never a simple swordsman, always someone important. Well I want to go see her, no need for you to stay any longer.”

“Nope, my orders where to keep you away from her. Sorry”

He started to grow angry; he slides his hand along the bed to the table where his sword is… His hand grabs air. With a lunge He’s on his feet, and at the same instant and padded cross bolt smashes in to his right shoulder. He looks to see Cole standing there aiming.

“I’m doing as I was told, your sword is with her. I’m sorry but you can’t go.”

“I command you to stop this foolishness now. I am your lord, do as I wish.”

“No...”

Enraged Knight thrusts his body towards Cole, in attempts to cleave him off his feet. Cole steps to the right quickly and fires a bolt with a red pad at Knight’s right back leg. On impact his leg goes limp. Knight looks to the arrow to see “Nem” written on the shaft of the arrow.

“Jorn… God damn it.”

“I really don’t like doing this.”

Knight whispers to himself…

“Why…” He looks up at Cole, “get him, get Sarwar”

“Fine, make a move and I stop all your muscles.”

Cole steps out of the room and Knight crawls over to the bed, he sits up so it supports his back. He looks at his leg, motionless. The padded arrows where crafted with canceling materials that seal everything in the target it hits. In this case his leg. Within a few minutes Cole returns with Sarwar, but not just Sarwar but Jorn too. Sarwar speaks rather calmly.

“Good morning Lord Knight.”

“Good morning? Good morning? Do you bloody think that it’s a good morning? I’m being stopped from seeing my Love, and you ask me if it’s a good morning!”

“Well we know that…”

“WHY? WHY DO YOU INSISIT ON STOPPING ME! All I want to do is see her. That’s it. If she’s in the medical ward and it’s not that serious, why can’t I see her? Why don’t I have my sword? What are you hiding from me, and why are you stopping me.”

Knight starts to lift himself up as the seal starts to wear off. Steady on his legs her looks at the three of them. His blood starts to boil and the air around Him starts to crackle with power. Cole readies another bolt only to have Jorn place his hand on it, stopping him. With a nod from Jorn, both Sarwar and Cole step out, leaving the two of them alone. Jorn lifts his hands up and slowly walks to Knight. Small flashes off lightning start to jump around Knight, and his eye start to turn black.

“Knight, stop this.”

“NO, damn it you can’t keep me away from her. I want to be with her, no matter what. She’s the reason that I fight each day, the reason I rule Europe. I want it to be safe here for her and our family. I want everything to be perfect, and if that means I lose my life to do so I will. I want her safe. I want to be with her, she is my W.I.W.”

“I know that and that’s what I’m doing. Do you remember that promise I made to you all those years ago, back when we started this?”

“How could I forget? I’m the one that made you promise it.”

“Yes, you made me promise. The promise I’m keeping now. That if anything happened to her, that I’d stop you from going berserk. I’d lock you away gift and weapons alike. Keep you from doing more harm than good while I saved her for you. I’m doing that now.”

Knight looks at him. The leader of Nem, and the Emperor to be, once North America was captured, Jorn Schiller. The realization of what’s going on starts to sink in and his body releases. The crackling ends and his magick starts to seep back in to him. Knight looks up to Jorn.

“Is it that serious…?”

“Yes.”

“Then I guess I need to wait it off.”

“You’re more understanding then I thought”

“Sometimes, the best intentions, can lead to the worse out comes.”

“What?”

“Nothing…”

“Do you love her?”

“Does the sun set each day only to rise again?”

“How much?”

“Too much…”

“Knight… I’m sorry.

“No, you’re keeping a promise. I’m not perfect, and I know I’ll mess this up.”

They stand for a moment as Knight walks to the balcony; He notices the black seared mark on the floor, then, while looking over the edge, he sees the blood stain on the floor. He grippes the rail, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.

“The heart rules all actions.”

Knight throws himself off the edge…
