E3 2010

Games by Din5193 on  Jun 16, 2010

Whoa, how long have I been gone? :P Anyway, suffice to say I've been busy with school. But since this is my last week (finals are a breeze for me), I can finally get back on NoobFeed. :D

So let's jump right in; E3 2010. Now, Nintendo's is the only conference I saw; I didn't watch Sony's and I actually missed Microsoft's, Ubisoft's, and EA's. :P But from what I've heard, they were all sub-par compared to Nintendo's, so I feel like I'm not missing much. Maybe I'll look up some stuff for the new Assassin's Creed or Halo: Reach, but that's about it.

So, onto Nintendo's. I'll point out the things I'm most hyped about. Pretty much everything, except, of course, for the games like "Just Dance" and "Wii Party". There were some more games I was looking at, but I'll leave it at these for now:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

My hype factor: 10/10

What better way to start up Nintendo's conference than with the first of their two biggest bombshells? The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword uses the Wii MotionPlus to act as your trusty sword, as well as other items, allowing you to slash, toss, shoot, and swing in any way you desire. Miyamoto himself came on-stage to demonstrate the game, but due to some interference, completely bombed. From what I've heard, though, the games set up in the booths worked fine.

We were promised a "new Zelda experience", but since we really couldn't see much, it's hard to tell. But that's no biggie; what we did see looked a lot like Ocarina of Time, which is a good thing. Speaking of which, I love the art direction they took this time around; it's like a cross between the bright, cel-shaded graphics of Windwaker and the dark, realistic graphics of Twilight Princess. The end product, like the gameplay itself, seems a lot like Ocarina of Time.

Also, Master Sword = yay! You can't have a Zelda game without it! ...Well, I guess you can... I mean, Seasons and Ages were better than most games in the series...

Metroid: Other M

My hype factor: 10/10

I've been waiting over a year for this one now. E3 2009, they tease us with these epic action shots. I was expecting a little more for E3 2010. In fact, I was pretty angry after seeing it. But then something struck me; not once up until now did we see any of the exploring and puzzle-solving that we loved Metroid Prime for. So now, I'm really glad they showed us that nice, calm trailer. Good to see the spirit of Retro Studios is still alive in Other M.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

My hype factor: 9/10

And now the game we've been waiting for, for over seven years now. I have to say, it looked a lot like the others, which is definitely a plus. But... c'mon. Look at the characters. You can't tell me that's not Isaac. He's even wearing the same damn scarf! And Garet was there too, you can't tell me that's not Garet!

Ah, well. My nostalgic complaints aside, if it's anything like the first two, we're in for a treat.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

My hype factor: 7/10

Um... I'm... intrigued. To say the least. It looked silly and childish, but also incredibly fun. I'll just keep an eye on this one for now.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

My hype factor: 8/10

Not much to say here, either. It's another Donkey Kong Country. Plus, it's made by Retro Studios, the people who made Metroid Prime. It's gotta be good.

Epic Mickey

My hype factor: 6/10

I'm actually not that excited for this, but hey, how many games do you know where you can completely erase a character you don't like from existance? :P Like Kirby, I'm gonna keep my eyes on this one for a little while, see how it looks.

Nintendo 3DS

My hype factor: All of it

And here was Nintendo's closing work of art; their second bombshell. The 3DS is what it sounds like. It's a DS, in 3D. The top screen has a widescreen display, while the bottom screen is touch-sensitive. On the side, there's a slider, much like the volume control, that controls the 3D aspect. You can increase it to full, remove it completely, or anything in between. And from what I hear, it certainly looks 3D.

To top it all off, there's two cameras on the front of it. Guess what they're for? That's right; taking 3D pictures. There's also a lot of Wi-Fi features that I won't go into detail about.

But wait, there's more! It's also got a motion sensor, and a gyroscope! Well, Nintendo, you've done it again. Oh, but then they announced;

Kid Icarus Uprising

My hype factor: 10/10

You did it again, Nintendo... again. Our first look at a game for the 3DS, and what a look it was. I can't explain this, just look for yourself. I'm sure you can find the trailer on YouTube or something. Suffice to say, it's awesome.

But wait, they did it again! ...Again, again. Here's a list of some games coming to the 3DS;

Paper Mario, Star Fox 64 3D, Kingdom Hearts, Dead or Alive, Super Street Fighter IV, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D... oh, and...

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME 3D!!!

All in all? Best conference ever. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go cryogenically freeze myself until the 3DS comes out. :P

Ah, can't do that... because something else was announced even before E3! :D Probably my most hyped game at the moment... Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou No Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu! Or, for those of us who don't speak Japanese, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Heroes of Light and Shadow. Basically, it's a remake of the original Monshou no Nazo, and the sequel to the DS game Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. And this time around, you get to create your own character to serve as Marth's friend and bodyguard. Looks sweet. Comes out in Japan on July 15th, but there's no talk of a western release yet. I was at least hoping for some details on the game that weren't in Japanese... ah, well. I'll know all there is to know about it come July 15th.

Sorry I was gone for so long. See you all soon!
