Everything We Know about The Evil Within 2
Ready for The Evil Within 2?
by Grayshadow on Oct 05, 2017
The Evil Within 2 launches soon with more scares and deadly monsters than before. You probably are lost and don't know what the main protagonist, Sebastian Castellanos, has already survived or what The Evil Within 2 is even about. That's why we're here, to give you everything you need to know about The Evil Within 2 before it launches next week.
A Sequel
The Evil Within 2 is a sequel to The Evil Within and stars Sebastian Castellanos, a detective of Krimson City, taking place 3 years after the events of the first game. After the events of the first game, no one believes Sebastion's tale and was dismissed from the police department. Falling back into drinking until his former partner Juli Kidman contacts him about his daughter Lily. Thought to be dead she informs him that she's alive and now held captured by Mobius as a test subject for Union, a STEM world created using Lily's brain.
Union is a reflection of Lily's mind and has become unstable. There's hope and Sebastian could save her but it's a race before it all collapses. Now back into STEM Sebastian must contend with other killers who've made their mark in Union and face his own personal fears and past traumas. Currently, 2 killers have been confirmed for The Evil Within 2.
Stefano is a photographer who is obsessed with death after losing an eye. He wants Lily because he believes she can unlock his potential. The other is a priest name Father Theodore. As you might expect he has a mixed interpretation of the Bible and believes himself to be a God, and anyone who opposes him, in his word, "cleanse in the fires of" his guiding light". Like Stefano he wants Lily to take control of Union and mold it to his liking.
You probably picked up on a recurring theme here. Everyone locked in Union has a troubled mine and wants Lily, only Sebastian wants to get her out.
Let's Get Surviving
Like the original game The Evil Within 2 is a survival-horror game played from a third-person perspective. Players will descend into the world of Union in either Casual, Survival, or Nightmare.
No More Black Bars
One of the most annoying things about the first The Evil Within wasn't the obtuse enemies but the vexing black bars. This letterbox kept the player from seeing the top and bottom of the screen, obstructing the player's view. For a game where sneaking plays a huge part in staying alive this decision made it problematic.
Thankfully, the developers have removed this feature but can be put back if the player wishes. In addition, during flashback segments, the black bars will reappear since you're playing in the original game. A nice touch.
Open World, Sort of
While The Evil Within 2 does feature a majority of linear paths a small portion of the game is open for exploration. Made to look like an American suburb this area houses supplies and side objectives that the player can take on. This area isn't safe though, enemies litter the environment and the side objectives have some deadly creatures who want to wear your skin. The developers have included a Communicator so players won't have to search mindlessly for missions.
Crafting, Creating, and Green Gel
The first The Evil Within featured a crafting system but it was limited mostly to Agony Crossbow ammunition. Now the player can make ammo for any gun and upgrade using scrap found in the game. A workbench is available and crafting items while stationed at one will require less scrap.
Green Gel will make a return and serve as the primary way to upgrade Sebastian's abilities. These are divided in health, stealth, combat, recovery, and athleticism.
The Evil Within 2 launches on October 13 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
